At first: Surströmming stinks because it is made of fermented fish (herring). The taste is rather salty but after you smelled it you might not like to eat it...

But to be honest: the smell is much more worse than the taste!

I'm pretty sure it's surströmning that she eats at Christmas time. I got the idea, though, that it was kinda Swedish tradition?

We eat all sorts of good herring, as well, at Christmas, Easter lunch, etc.

You usually eat it with tunnbröd (a thin, soft bread) and almond potatoes, sliced onion and crème fraîche

Odd combination? Don't know about that. I love it! I even have fried herring with the same sause.
