Thanks, just read that it is sometimes impossible to repair the buttons/sliders. The 3 and 4 button in the sound bank do not react...and the cutoff slider is skipping some points. I will take it to the repair shop, just would be very dissapointed to learn it's imossible to fix

Well, it's absolutely possible to have it fixed. I picked up mine several years ago with many faults, almost non working. I took it to a specialized centre where are also specialists for vintage synths and now it works perfectly. They replaced several micro-switches (like the arrow keys) that were almost impossible to be used and the volume slider too, and fixed other deeper troubles.
It wasn't that expensive. For sure it's worth it.

That's a really great synth. I sold mine shortly after buying it cause it didn't offered me much more in terms of sound than what I had in the XP80 (just all the sliders and different FX structure). Bought it 450 and sold it 500 euros (it was absolutely mint).

You can alway use pistol with compressed air to clean sliders... Worked on mine jd

use 270 KOhm across R27 on mainboard to fix aftertouch problem works great now

I'm not sure if the JD990 takes that card.. few people say it does, other people say it does not, and others say it does but sounds different from JV synths..

JD is a really nice synth, worth about 450e I guess.

The card was actually firstly designed for this synth, it adds a few waveforms and about 255 patches

I don't really know, but the JD880 is quite pricey still and I would recommend it anytime over the 990, simply because you can edit it much better.. and it can do some really NEAT sounds if you have figured out how it works (easy:D)

I don't have space to stock a JD800, and it costs 600€ now, so this is much too pricey for me.
Furthermore, the JD800 can't handle a Vintage Card, which is a shame, really

The JD-990 is considered by many gear addicts the best sounding Roland PCM based synth of the 90's. Superb for pads, many extra features than its older forerunner.
The JD-990 can handle only 1 Expansion card (like the JV-880), nearly everyone with a JD-990 has a Vintage Card in it, actually half of the V.Card programs are only accessible from the JD-990 and specially programmed for it.
Price? hmm...still hot today compared to other modules.
I'd say € 300, more or less depending on the general shape and the LCD...

The JD800 seems to have become something of a retrend again of late,the prices of the Keyboards on Ebay are starting to climb,they used to go for anywhere between 200-300 UK pounds,but now are usually listed at the higher end of this as a starting bid.


JD990's are going for far more than 300 Euros when they come up,There is one on Ebay at the mo that I've got my eye on,as I've been after one for a very long time,starting bid is £300 UK pounds which is about the Average they have been going for in the past year or so,I'm after one to replace my JD800 keyboard.

Just out of interest does anyone know if the JD800 patches are directly transferable via sysex or such to the 990,I'm aware that they are not backwards compatible due to the 990 having more ROM but wondered if the rack can take the JD800 patches

I'm 100% sure it can.
