Try out the demo, you can play around with all or atleast a lot of the presets from the full version.

Yes I use it from time to time(to satiate my lust for making funny sounds) but I haven't come across any Jarre patches. But what's strange is that I haven't come across Vangelis' Horn either.

And you need polyphonic aftertouch and a long ribbon controller for the full CS-80 effect as used by Vangelis
Main synths: Roland Fantom X6, XP80, Alesis Ion, Korg 01/WFD, Wavestation SR, Oberheim Matrix 1000.

Just like Arturia totally missed that Jarre was a heavy user of the ARP2600 (when everybody else used the Minimoog) they totally forgot that Vangelis IS the master of the Yamaha CS80.
But I guess that Arturia is no better than the morons on Gearwire...

I've never tried a CS80 and have had way too little time with the CS80V. However AFAIK the Vangelis horn is a modified presetpatch. Find that, get a Ensoniq SQ80 (as a midikeyboard) and you're almost there. Things that is good to have also would be a beard, a greek accent and the hands of Vangelis.

:
For the ARP2600 Perhaps, but he was certainly featured on their Minimoog Adverts endorsing the VST,so there not totally alien to what classics he's used, although they never featured any of Jarre sounds or Patches made by him he has credited it as a good Replication in there Magazine ads, with him even being Pictured on it too,Perhaps he didn't want to contribute to the ARP2600 VST

I can't see how Arturia would be blind to these Artist who made the instruments their own, after all Vangelis is perhaps the most famous CS80 User of all but he has never been a fan of Computers anyway, and has always been a very reluctant composer to share his tips and tricks so perhaps he didn't want to endorse the CS80V with his patches, the same as maybe Jarre didn't want to contribute with the ARP2600V

As for Gearwire??? Say No more??

Yes, as the makers of the presets are mostly former users of the real synths, I think they would atleast cover their own sounds instead of other musicians. The Moog Modular programmer from YMO actially programmed some sounds for the ModularV.
There must be some reasons why JMJ and Vangelis didn't feature. If Vangelis doesn't like computers that must be the answer  but JMJ is quoted where he talks about the MinimoogV in the official infobrochure about it, so he has not been forgotten by Arturia after all.

Forget the Arturia ARP2600V, Jarre should do some patches with the TimewARP2600.
Without faith nothing is possible. With it, nothing is impossible.

That sounds fair. Vangelis sounds is more about his playing technique than in the actual programming. I've heard that his most two famous sounds on the CS80 (horn and koto) are very easy to program but very hard to "play" in the same way as him.

So you wouldn't need Vangelis to program his trademark sounds on the CS80V. They could have somebody who knew the CS80 inside out to do those and give the old greek some credits. I love that the man himself is not into computers. :)

Ok. But why is he talking about the Moog!? That bugs me a bit. Jarre is not a famous Moog user!
Jarre should have made custom patches and have a say about the ARP2600V! He is a famous ARP2600 user.

Ah, well. I guess that money is involved too. It always is in some way. Arturia probably paid him to say something about the Moog but not when they did the ARP2600V.

As far as I remember, Jarre talked about the MinimoogV as a user.

Course not. It's fairly easy to program those sounds. It's all in the polyphonic aftertouch really...

Actually it's quite a joke if you ask me... anything brassy with a filter and vca attack routed to velocity and a slight pulse/nasalish sounds is now considered trademark Vangelis, but in fact any synth can do that :P

I totally agree with you.To me it's the most vintage analog sounding plug-in I've tried next to the new Kikaxxe from the same manufacturer :bravo:
Some old short demo's I did with TW2600:

About the Minimoog V ,there is no full quote from Jarre on Arturia's site at the moment but as I recall he talked that he's very familiar with the filter behavior on the real mini and the Arturia version (then was still v 1.1) sounds remarkably the same :?: :!:

For that famous brass type of sound I find Sonicprojects OP-X more suitable then Arturia CS80v 8)
