I think that erasing is done automatically, but i´m quite sure that it works with tapes. These things are in fact nothing more than a tape machine with a endless tape.

That's how tape echos work. The incoming audio is recorded and immediately played back by a couple of tapeheads before being erased, where the process starts all over again.

Yes, if it does work off a tape loop, even if the machine itself doesn't work you could probably sell the tape loop on for about 20 euros on eBay, it's crazy!
