I think the tb303 will be still in use in the next years... because of his warm sound (analog), and because it is a cult machine !
there is no emulation at this time that can do better than this machine, It has a very unique sound !

But it's too expensiiiiive !!!! :x

The Roland MC09 is cheap second hand, and in my mind is a pretty good hardware emulation when you switch it to "Vintage mode" :D
I got mine for £80.

I recognise its important in popular dance culture,but too be honest we have Emulations coming out of our ears nowadays and most synths no matter what Manufacturer they are will have at least 2 or so Patches with Cheesy Emulations of the TB303,with even more cheesier Patch names,theres a couple in the Trinity/Triton with names like

TB or not TB
303 not for me
acid a go go
Acidic Bee


But while Dance culture is still around you will never break away from the TB303 Timbre or association,whether you love it or Loathe it,its an Influential sound,that will be used for a long time yet..

Only thing I can't stand,with Instruments like this stature,is that you get those greedy parasites who don't care for the Beauty of these gadgets and just try to sell them for mega bucks because it Fashion,when if they were so respectful and honest they wouldn't sell such a heritage in musical Instrument history..

The same with Minimoog Sellers or AR2600 sellers,they advertise it like there really sorry to see them go and that they've had 450 years of trouble free use,but sadly have to sell because they need it to pay for a Kidney Transplant!!!!(when in real terms means they bought it knackered from a car boot sale for 5 magic beans took it hom and bodged the internals and selling it to some mug for 5000 dollars)

Yes like they probably would never have dusted them off out of the attic if it wasn't for the Upserge in prices and just get ino on a quick buck action!!!they like many others dumped them for Digital mega synths,and only decided to look at them again because they suddenly become hip,not as Instruments but as fashion

If you cared anything for such gear,I know I wouldn't sell it just to make a few extra quid..Irrespective of its high value..in real terms a synth like that really isnt worth any Money if you appreciatte it,its more a Sentimental value....

We have samples and goodness know what coming out of our ears,yet people still are prepared to fork out unrealistic Monetary values for a box of wires

On vintagesynth.com in a topic tehre was a great discussion about which synths you could get a decent 303 sound from. Some in there were very focused on it's 18db filter and special waveforms, which makes it difficult to emulate it on other typical synths. A great link was posted though to conclude that the sound is not impossible to program.
Anyway, a TB303 is gold especially among acid lovers.
I really would like to own one of this, it's cool for acid or electro replicas, but for that price I can live with other synths that can do decent replicas.

I wouldn't use a TB-303 for FAT basses. I actually never thought about if it's fat or not. If you put two of these together you'll get a cool sound, but I think this synth is just made for Acid :P . As that documentary said, it never really got popular as for the purpose it was made for.
I also really like the early Italo stuff with simple synthsounds like basses from this thing.
