True, indeed, but do I think he meant it the other way round too... people weren't able to play back a surround mix properly back then

In some respects i think its a bit of both,Surround sound systems were availible,and so was the Mixing machine capabilities,its just that as technology advances it become cheaper and more affordable to the general Public,It was more a "Right Time" with aero,i think due to more and more people having a surround system,but I also recall Jarre saying that there weren't any Engineers that were that experienced in surround duties except for those who do Movie Music Production,which is a different angle to it...Still i think Jarre would have had more success with MetaMorphoses if he had of done that as his first 5.1 Album
I looked at the 01V too,but they dont have enough Inputs for my needs even with the Expansion options,i wanted a digital desk that still had the same amount of outs/In and flexibility as my analog Behringer..
If i had a smaller setup then i would have definetly gone for the 01v series,Even the older 01 are a good buy,I've always liked the yamaha Digital Mixers there so easy to use and get good audio results from,very user friendly
good thing about the Yamaha digital mixers is that you can interlink as many Mixers as you want and still control everything from the main console.so if needs be you can build a bigger Production suite by adding additional Mixers of the same Genre,which is better than having to buy another larger console
Plus for the price of the 02R now your getting a real top notch digital Desk that still sets the standards even almost 10 years after it was released,this desk cost £7000 on release????i got it for less than 10% of that with 2 expansion boards....
