VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI is "extremely upset" that Muslims have been offended by some of his words in a recent speech in Germany, the Vatican said Saturday.

I don't like Pope B16 very much. He abolished the yearly popconcert in the Vatican. JP2 organised it every year, to make religion a bit less conservative (we all know he didn't dislike more modern music  ).

I don't like the Catholic church at all, not with the politics that they fight for in those days.

Indeed! It's too old-fashioned and too conservative. And all that wars, only because people don't believe in the same...

Well, sorry, but the muslims comments make no sense.

I suppose muslims do not believe anything of Roman Catholicism, yet they do take the words of the Catholicism leader, the pope, seriously, who's speech is only based on his religion. And then they call him hypocritical.

Errr.. right :D

@Jarp: B16 & JP2? I like those codenames :mrgreen:

Couple of points.

A) Islam, Christianity and Judaism are practically the same faith with cultural variations

and

B) The Pope was making an academic speech, not a religious one

And the Muslims are perfectly entitled to be upset. He did, after all, insult their religion, which is central to their society whether we like it or not. Personally I like atheist governments, they tend to get into less wars. But in Muslim-concentrated areas, it is central to what they do and how they do it. It's like me criticising someone for how they lead their entire lives.

The IRS does that to me all the time...
And I DO criticize... and it got me nowhere... maybe I should start burning something... or something... 8)

Anyway, the Pope was quoting an old emperor called Bizantine, which in turn (thus emperor) was talking many many years ago in a Universe far far away about the way of a faith and the way it was being spreaded... (by the sword, no red light sabers though).

Sadly, the Pope also seemed to forgot to mention that early - sort of - "Catholics" also had something called the "Spanish Inquisition" and the "Templars" who were not to diferent in the tactics the mentioned emperor was not so happy about... and they were also using swords, but not green nor blue... nor red for that matter, before I get acused of favouring anything... phantom menace, the attack of the clones, blablabla... the balance in the Force yet remains to be achieved.

I don't know the Pope personally, I don't defend ideas from people I don't know until I know them (the ideas), and I don't allow anyone to insult me based on someone else's words without knowing what I think... it's just rude.

And that goes for everyone else who speaks for "some cult" or tries to shuv ideas not mine, in my head, in the name of some higher entity that never said anything to me to begin with - and I have nor follow any cult, I'm without religion.

God, or whatever His Name is (human words spell It?) or what you may call Him, should be allowed to speak for Himself, ya know... all mighty and all... since others are doing so pretending to do so in His Name... I know I would not like that... It's just rude.

Reason, peace, answers are within each ones heart, and each one should seek one's way without disturbing others.

There is a God, I'm sure, as sure as I am none of those who talk in His Name never had a single chat with Him (or Her, I don't really know the gender, I've never had the pleasure, as I said, a meeting the Maker - that I remember consciously, that is)... silent is the best place to meet a Divine entity.

The rest, of course, all this bullcrap about over-reacting or not, whatever, mind the 3 or 4 days of latency - the offended ones never heard it/understood it to start with - as it was with Denmark (2 or 3 months) - will take the needed time in order for religious ignorants, pardon, leaders, to translate the german/danish, and it's just politics and business, and will for power, pure manipulation and even purer pityfful absolute ignorance in action - and nothing is more terrible than watching that - ignorance - in action - and I'm quite sure we will... again...

Listening to the speech, as I said, sadly lacking a similar reference in the Popes creed, I don't see what's offending in such a way one can't discuss it PEACEFULLY like grown up people do... usually.

Kind Regards,
AMR
