Hello!

I've been recently revisiting the Concerts in China 1981 Documentary (mostly to listen to Magnetic Fields pt.1)

And i've noticed that between the rips i found online there were differences in the aforementioned song.

Specifially in this rip: (presumably from a VHS)


When i compared it to the other VHS rip online (the one from 9thenazeing) it doesnt seem to share the same musical differences.

Could be the audio mastering. They probably mastered the audio for the DVD different than of the VHS.

I can't remember if an Australian VHS or even a recording of a TV broadcast from there was ever discovered, but the assumption regarding the DVD was that it was sourced from an Australian TV version that has some differences to the standard VHS version available elsewhere.

But as someone who owns the DVD, and has an ancient mp3 of Magnetic Fields 1 sourced from the VHS, your comparison video is correct in that the DVD version has an audio track differing from the standard VHS releases (up to 0:16 anyway, didn't compare the other part), so I'd assume all the commercial VHS releases used the audio track as heard in those other YT videos as well.

A little off-topic, but the video quality on the DVD rip in the first clip looks so awesome!

Has anybody uploaded the full thing to YouTube yet? I've only seen the AI upscale of the concert, but the colours look way more vibrant on this, and the video looks way clearer too. I'd love to see the full thing in that quality!

Alright so i've compared the mysterious VHS snippet and the other releases and found another thing.

Jarre's talk about Chinese Electricity in that particular rip is dubbed in french?! (so the rip could come from some kind of French revision of the VHS???)

I trained a model to guess frequencies based on the DVD and FLAC release of the CiC album.

And the video is upscaled using SeedVR2 (with some color boosting in DaVinci Resolve)

Yeah, I can imagine something as long as the Concerts in China would be quite an expensive thing to upscale, but trust me the results you'll get will 100% be worth the time and effort.

I don't actually know all that much about AI upscaling myself, I see all these channels talking about using SeedVR2, Topaz and whatnot to achieve these amazing results, but keep doing whatever magic it is you're doing!

The audio remastering sounds great too, by the way. I have a channel myself that focuses more on trying to remaster the audio of the concerts and pairing that with video remasters that I get permission to use. My audio "remastering" methods are way more basic though, I just stick a .WAV file in Audacity and try my best to get a good result with the tools at my disposal. The majority of techniques I use are actually all learned from YouTube tutorials I've watched...
