Domestos wrote: Mon Oct 20, 2025 7:06 pm Book looks great, would love it on my coffee table. But I expect it’ll have random typos and weird nonsensical glitches like you turn over a page and it’ll won’t have been printed properly.
You would hope that Thames & Hudson has a good quality control dept with professional proof-readers, so this won't happen. I expect this will be a 100% spot-on production with no errors in the book.

In terms of the touring exhibition, this is interesting. I think it risks being really, really dull unless it is curated in a dynamic way. To have a series of synths just sitting there on display won't be in any way interesting, to a non-fan or indeed a fan of electronic music. I would expect:

- Sounds at various points to be heard through headphones
- Opportunity to fiddle with a VCS3 and make your own white noise
- The LAG Lumineux Circular Clavier to be a centre piece, and exhibition visitors can stand and be photo'd and video'd playing the thing - Instagram content!
- The LAG Insecte available to wear and pose with - likewise, this will make for good clicks on social media and all museums want this these days
- Too much to ask to have a working laser harp to play around on?

I understand the Lumineux Circular is no longer in JMJ's collection and is in private ownership. It absolutely needs to be loaned as part of the show.

JMJ has said in interviews many times (and rightly so) that electronic instruments were made for the studio or the laboratory and are in no way sexy or designed for live performance, like the electric guitar. So he worked with amazing inventors and engineers to create instruments and machines that bring electronic music alive for an audience. That, more than anything, is his legacy in terms of the machines and I would hope the exhibition is designed with this in mind.

Given how expensive the Thomas & Hudson books are then I think it should hopefully be checked!!

I'm looking forward to that book - the Push, Turn, Move one was good too and he wasn't too involved in that one!

Listening to the AI translated english text now (it's a second audio stream on youtube, and it's weird at some places, but I can follow it). The story about him dodging military service because he had to play at the Paris Opera is pretty wild. Police entering the opera and him escaping, which went on for a week :-D

Appropriate, seeing as the original release date was 5th December 1976. The anniversary will probably continue well into 2027 to celebrate the wider European (and UK / Ireland) release in late August 1977.

Fifty years ago, music was on the brink of major change with seismic arrival of punk rock to centre stage
Oxygene by Jean-Michel Jarre
In the 70s the future was analogue synthesisers, and French musician Jarre wanted to be part of that future so badly he sold his guitar and amplifier to buy one.
It proved a smart move, because when this six-part electronic odyssey dropped, it was unlike anything anyone had ever heard: a dizzying collection of interstellar synths, pulsating melodies, and frigid soundscapes that's as intoxicating now as it was 50 years ago.
Jarre has released more than 20 other albums and is still a superstar in Europe, but Oxygene assured his legacy and changed the future of music almost as much as punk did that same year. The record has reportedly sold in excess of 18 million copies, which, according to some sources makes it the best-selling French, electronic and instrumental albums of all time.
