JEAN-MICHEL JARRE ON RTL 102.5: "IN JULY I WILL PLAY IN VENICE AND POMPEII AND I AM HONORED TO BE ABLE TO GIVE BACK TO ITALY SOME OF WHAT I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM YOUR COUNTRY"
DURING THE FLIGHT, THE FRENCH COMPOSER PRESENTED HIS RETURN TO ITALY LIVE ON THE RADIO, BASED ON MUSIC, IMAGES AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Jean-Michel Jarre was a guest on RTL 102.5, in the company of Matteo Campese and La Zac, to present his return to Italy in style, conceived as a total work. It will be a journey through sound, image and artificial intelligence that will involve the legendary 360° composer in his most eclectic dimension. From May to November, its route will wind through Milan, Venice and Pompeii, interweaving installations, exhibitions and concerts in an unprecedented immersive experience. A project with multiple languages but with a single architect: Jean-Michel Jarre, who continues to reinvent the art of sound and image in the digital age. This Italian season presents itself as an immersive trip in three stages that invites the public to explore the future of creativity through the synergy between man and machine.
FIRST STOP: OXYVILLE
To the microphones of RTL 102.5, Jean-Michel Jarre said: "In this period I have a lot of things to do and it's a bit of an "Italian season" for me. First of all, I started a big project, called "Oxyville", with the Venice Architecture Biennale and which will cover immersive music». In fact, from May 10 to November 23, 2025, Jean-Michel Jarre was invited to 19. International Exhibition of Architecture of the Venice Biennale, entitled "Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.", edited by Carlo Ratti. The artist will present "Oxyville", an immersive musical installation inspired by the album "Oxymore" by Jean-Michel Jarre created with the artistic coordination of Maria Grazia Mattei and MEET Digital Culture Center. Designed in 360° spatialized sound, the work explores the connection between 3D audio and architectural space, where sound becomes the primary material for building an imaginary city.
SECOND STAGE: PROMPTITUDE
From June 12 to September 7, 2025, the MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan - the first International Center for Art and Digital Culture in Italy, born in Milan with the support of the Cariplo Foundation and founded by Maria Grazia Mattei - will host "Promptitude", the first exhibition of visual works by Jean-Michel Jarre. A return of the artist to MEET in what he himself called "a beacon that intercepts ideas and in turn spreads them" and that he chose as a place to show this work that is proposed as an exploration of the man-machine relationship, through the creative use of textual prompts to guide the AI in the creation of portraits of humanoid creatures. Prompt that he himself sees as haiku for AI: short and powerful instructions that give life to unprecedented visual worlds. The exhibition will be enriched by the generative sound composition Eōn, which will continuously evolve, offering an immersive environment in constant transformation. «There will also be an outdoor installation in Milan and here you can also see the use of artificial intelligence. The relationship with man's emotions never changes, it has never changed and it will always be that: love, life, death, and everything else. However, technology changes, which causes new sounds and new ways of expressing them. Without the violin there would have been no Vivaldi, without electricity we would not have had David Gilmour or Coldplay. It will be artificial intelligence that will tell us what the sound of the future will be» added the artist during “The Flight”.
THIRD STAGE: THE CONCERTS-LIVE EVENTS IN VENICE AND POMPEII
Another fundamental moment of the Italian season of the French artist will be represented by the two concert-events scheduled for July 3, in the extraordinary setting of St. Mark's Square in Venice, where Jarre has always dreamed of performing, and on July 5 at the Amphitheater of the Excavations in Pompeii, an occasion in which the music of Jean-Michel Jarre will dialogue with the ruins of one of the most fascinating cities of the ancient world. Two places of extraordinary historical and artistic value (UNESCO Heritage) that will become the stage for immersive performances in which music will be intertwined with visual experimentation thanks to an avant-garde staging that will allow Jarre to transform spaces into three-dimensional sound environments where the public can live a unique synesthetic experience. Live on RTL 102.5, Jarre revealed: "I really played in crazy places. It all started in Paris, when I was experiencing the sound of electronic music outdoors. I then played at Place de la Concorde and I had the privilege of being the first to play in Tiananmen Square in China. I also performed in Times Square, in the Sahara Desert, in Houston for a space launch, in Moscow and, just a few months ago, for the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics. For a long time, I dreamed of playing in Venice and Pompeii, because these places are very special, and I feel honored to give back to Italy some of what I "stole" and used as inspiration from your country. Italy has always inspired me from a cinematographic and musical point of view, so having the opportunity to play in such special places makes me really happy». «I really like to play outdoors and the feeling that there is with the audience is immediate, because you see it immediately and you also have the responsibility for the chemistry that is created. Pompeii and Venice are two very different locations, one circular and one rectangular, and the acoustics and immersive experience will be very different, but what I will try to do is recreate the atmosphere. It will be something even more beautiful than the performance at the Paris Olympics, there will be extraordinary special effects and it will be an immersive experience also thanks to artificial intelligence» concluded Jean-Michel Jarre.
