Aren't we all stereotypes? I have some countries or places I hate without having any good explanations. I will just sound like an ass if I start to talk about it.

I watched a documentary about some German Cultures where they had special places,a meeting hall or something similar,where people could go and expell there laughter in specially commisioned Classes....Found this really odd.

I dont think i have ever gone a day without humour or laughing about something,its a very strange attitude to not laugh at all,if your considered like that in the UK it would be weird,I dont think I've ever come across anyone who doesnt laugh reguarly or do it with being selfconscious of trying not to laugh,most bantar between friends and colleagues who engage in conversation always has a little humour thrown in...to me Laughing is a natural expression.Don't know how i'd get through life without it...Now i can understand why those German People on holiday didnt see the Funny side of things.Dont think I've ever seen a german person engage in everyday Humour like the English.I know they have a different culture but surely there must be things that incite merriment for them at least sometime during the day.they always look so serious even in friendly situations.

I think I don't have any.

The things that I don't like can be policy of government of other country or some events from the past, but for me people're people, politicians are politicians, history is history. I wouldn't like to be evaluated because of what some idiot from my counry has done. The same with stereotypes. The more complicated thing is history, but I'm against blaming somebody for what his nation (or rather: part of his nation) did. People should not even be responsible for what their parents are doing IMHO, so how can they be blamed for things they know just like me - from books. I think theimportant thing is to have consciousness - I have consciousness of history of Poland, which constists also of things we can't be proud of, I've also conciousness of problems in Polish society.


BTW - I know Brits with great sense of humour, the same with people from Germany... World is much more complicated than in stereotypes.

I know what you mean, but it's like everybody says "If you speak english to someone from Italy, they will act forthcomming and won't answer becasue they hate the language or something" for instance. Such things are often said about italians. Danes are also said to have a big ego and act snobbish or stupis, I don't remember exactly what it was, but for some reasons I will actually agree, the average dane is like that... not me ofcourse

I think it might have something to do with something that you are unsatisfied with for instance the people in a country. Im very good at generalizing, but that's often from this point of view... an average xx is like something.

I have no idea... I have no experiences with italians act, just what most people say, but they might say the same about France. They are indeed said to be critical against the english language, but this is common in bigger cities. Not so long time ago, a newspaper made a test in different countries where a tourist drop a lot of papers and wanted to see how people would react, help or just keep going. ofcourse they did it different places in the cities and more times in each city to get a better perspective. alot of finns think that ppl who choose community service instead of army are those who use drugs,are gay,rape people,are lazy etc. etc.

Sure that is crazy!

As for Frenshmen they are a bit arrogant, never liking to learn English still think they rule the world and such. Haha. Very funny to find that Jarre is not one of them!

Every generation will blame the one before,thats how history is told and written,the "what ifs "and "why fors" again you hit on a point which is a view i hold in contrast about not being judged by political decisions,again there is a shroud view across the world that because of the US invasion of Iraq and allegiance of the UK that everyone is in support of it,and again because of western policy the UK have become grouped into that network of illicit acts,i for one do not support the war,there is no part most people in the uk would play in sending us into a conflict that would not have been started had the US not gotten so deep into homeland security complexes and tried to take out anyone who didnt subscribe to there ballistical ways of dealing...

I for one feel disgraced that the UK are seen as lapdogs to the US invasion,and if it wasnt for political injust we would never have been involved again its a stereotype view that all English are in support because of a government view
History cannot be changed but at the same time future improvements can also make history sometimes i think people should look beyond the small picture and look more to making a difference and not out to screw everyone,people are people and i agree with live and let live,but sometimes feel many others have far too much to lose and decide to wipe out anyone who doesnt agree with them*cough ahem George Bush* if anything his stereotypical attitude is one that has made history,and again will go down as a pointer for the next generation(if there is another one,the way things are going the world will be in a War)the only threat to world peace is the exact same person whos set about trying to make it!!!!the world is far less stable now than it was before nd that again is a stereotype on Terrorism and Muslim lifestyles,I think if GB had his way anyone who was a Muslim would be locked up.....

Equin(00)xe - for me you and your country's policy are two different things, so I'm not the one putting all Brits into "licking Bush's (who is a *beep* IMHO) ass" category, don't worry.

I also wish that people don't look on Poland in view of all these fuck..ekhm...not very nice idio...yyy...politicians and their ideas.


If reffering to history - that's truth that we can't change what already happened, but we should find right attitude to past events - being honest enough to admit: "that and that was a mistake" and - what's IMHO most important - have some coclusion for the future. I think the truth is the best way.

I've said all these these things about history as in my country we're still having problems with facing with the past and the past is an important part of Poland's international contacts - that's also a tool to create society's views on other nationalities, sometimes used to manipulate.
So many stereotypes are connected with history.
