After watching Rune Forshaug's great Rendez-Vous 3 video again for the first time in a long time, I was once again reminded of a life-long question:

Is it possible to get a laser harp (like Rune's) that you can just plug into your computer and use as a MIDI controller (of course, after some tweaking)? And how much would that cost (approximately)?

If the answer to the former question isn't "Yes" (as I suspect it probably isn't

), then I think I'll wait another 10 years or so >_>

Yes it's possible.

BUT; if you want a plug and play device (USB), then you'll need a device driver that translate data to MIDI data (and i don't know if someone did that...)

It makes me remember about Yann Terrien software to totally control the Harp...

but developing software is expensive, so you'll probably have to look about harp with "simple" MIDI DIn connector (which is quite usable too

)

Yeah, connecting it to my computer via MIDI would of course also suffice.

Of course, now I wonder where should I get the actual lasers for this (if I ever get the controller itself), no idea if I should look for retailers from Finland or just see if places like this ship over here.

maybe you could ask Stephan Hobley if he still selling his plans to DIY.

Except for the Laser part wich is expensive, he build one with the arduino controller and...wiimote captor

The funny part with recent arduino controller : there's a built in USB interface so...i let you imagine what can be done with this device ^^

Thanks, glad you like the videos. The ProLight laser harp really is so easy to set-up and use. It's a fantastic bit of kit - and the best thing is you can use any ILDA laser, with a frame or unframed - and incorporate it into your performance anyway you like.
