My opinion is fans want a new album so badly so that is a form of dictation as a fan for the artist. The wait is making them frustrated and impatient due to the length of time. This is the most popular question asked, most of the time about a new album. So surely, that suggests that all if not most want a new album from him. We as fans will only be informed once all is official in anything. Nothing to suggest otherwise. When he speaks about a new album does not mean that will happen as changes can occur. He is human like the rest of us.

But the point is; JMJ (the artist) has announced time after time of new projects and given estimated times of release. He shouldn't do that if he has no intentions to fulfill his commitments and his promises. Without no updated message that projects are delayed or canned, fans will ask what is happening with the project. Lets be brutishly honest here, JMJ's career has sunk quicker than the Titanic. His private life played a big part in that. Events unfolded which happens to us all and of which he could not control or change. But he has struggled to get back up. So when you add all this into the mix, it comes across that he does not understand what the fans expect of him as an artist. And yes, we do expect a lot from him because he is the artist, we are not. That applies to ALL artists, not just JMJ. But JMJ needs to get back into the studio. Back into gear. Back into music. Back into limelight as a forerunner and show these modern day artists how it is properly done.

Look around, how many fans left Jarre over the recent years. Despite tours, of which 2011 seemed kinda a flop, though not everywhere ; no matter presidency and member of whatever oganization.

Well, then it is your unsure opinion. Comparing JM’s career at this time to the Titanic and what happened to it, is quite a negative attitude.

I don't need to look around. I am well aware of the situation - 300k likes on his Facebook page - over 14,000 followers on his Twitter page. This is just a number but not as low if he was struggling as an artist. (Maybe of interest he was popular at IMS in Ibiza, another example.) As for the tours, some fans still want him to continue to tour.

Hi people,

I know that I don't contribute so much to this forum. But I really follows Jean Michel Jarre career a long time.
So in my opinion the new album is delayed because like Kanta said Jarre is perfeccionist and also a man ahead of our time.

If we compare the career of Jarre in 80 years was very remarkable. At this time synthesizers were too expensive and nobody could buy one. Nowadays everybody can use VSTI's with incredible worked sounds using the more sofisticated algorithms.

Jarre is always pursuiting in his career a way to break all the paradigms. So a new album can not repeat "Teo & Tea" , it should be remarkable too. The same mistake can not be repeated.

In order to do that you need to deeply study. His music is not only memorable because of sound effects but mainly because his music is unique , universal and has soul.

I think is quite possible Jarre is looking to innovate in this way creating something new and unique like he always did in the past. But we were used too see this more in the past even because technology was very limited for all of us.

So how to innovate nowadays ? Jarre tried this last time with the album AERO, using 5.1 recording .. and he did it well.

Create new thing to impact people is not so easy. But I believe like he said .. nowadays the MP3 make things really worse. The sound quality is not the same and the main thing " the user experience" is not the same.

There are several researches in this field how to create a "3D sound engineering", not using 5 speakers or 7, but using Sound Engineering.

If you have 2 ears and you can have a real 3d experience , why not to create these 3d experience even using 2 speakers ? The binaural sounds can create a 3d experience .. and I believe in future something similar we will have even using 2 speakers.

So I still believe Jean Michel Jarre is doing as much as he can do something unique and remarkable for his fans. Not only for us, but because he always was a man ahead of his time

I remember when people were practically begging for him to bring back Equinoxe 5 to his live set-list, and when he finally did (years after saying how the track belonged to the past), it didn't take long for them to change their mind to "wow I've grown tired of hearing these same tracks over and over again, he should [do this] and [do that]".

I'd still rather see some past releases (or even unreleased material) seeing the light of the day again. In fact, the last time when something really happened in that regard was when that Australian company planned to release DVDs for Concerts in China and RDV Houston - succeeding in the former for a few days (I really cherish my copy of it, even though it's more or less just a tad bit better than those fan-made VHS->DVD conversions - but still better). And this was in 2008, 8 years after the release of the Moscow DVD.

When the album finally comes out, I'll definitely check it out. But the whole "waiting game" aspect of possible JMJ releases is something that bugs me as well.

It's always been this way with JMJ - there are two major differences nowadays:
1. The gaps between official albums are now approaching 7 years
2. The internet - people before then often only heard about a new album when it hit store shelves.

We live in an era of instant news. Somebody says something and the whole world knows about it there and then. IMO JMJ doesn't have a record label to release whatever he has prepared, and any material in the vaults is tied up in so much red tape, it will take years to unravel.
That's why Essentials & Rarities has so much filler in the rarities disc (LGB e.g) - JMJ didn't want whoever took over Dreyfus (BMG) to have more material that he felt comfortable with.
I feared the worst when E&R was released actually - I couldn't see a new release soon after yet another compilation, and so it turned out ...

Lynchland - David Lynch - Roland Kermarec Well, we can't be sure about that, but there are quite a few coïncidences leading to that conclusion. But judging by what David L. said about that project, it didn't sound as an important one, though, and he didn't seem to be the one in charge.

It's not just the album, he was supposed to release a book last year and it didn't occur.
I feel like Jean Michel's fight for author rights which has come a long way will start with his own music, and otherwise it would be kinda meaningless…

Nouvel album

Le nouvel album de Rone est à l'étape préliminaire et s'ajoute à un carnet de commandes bien garni - musiques de films et autres collaborations. Il ne veut pas le dire tout haut, mais un projet commun avec le célébrissime Jean Michel Jarre est en voie de se concrétiser. Et l'on ne compte pas son travail récent auprès du groupe américain The National.
