Just wondering, but anyone has a good idea on how to start... I so far own nothing, but want for a couple of years but never had the money and my parent's were (still are :p) somewhat annoying when it comes to what they want me to do, and what I want to do... Looking back on things I would start off with a half decent electric piano with weighted keys, we are talking about £350 for a new one. Buy teach yourself books or take lessons. Why? Well if you start off with synths then all you do is mess about on them because they are so addictive and you end up not being able to play to save your life (in my case at least).
I'm not suggesting you spend years learning to become a musical genius but at least become fairly competent on a keyboard. While you are learing to play set your heart on a synth you want and start saving. Promise it to yourself as a present for learning the basics and save for it while you learn.
Then just take it from there. I bought some of my gear on Ebay (Radias, Supernova) where there a lot of good bargains to be had. The big synths such as the Voyager, Virus and Wave I bought new because I wanted some form of warranty on such expensive item.
Beware though GAS (Gear Aquisition Sysndrome) is addictive and it takes time unless you are very fortunate and have a lot of spare cash. I have bought my gear over the past 10 years (but mainly the last 3) but I don't go out socialising, I don't drink or smoke just about every spare penny I have goes into gear and the enjoyment I get from it.
Some of the setups you see on this thread will take a lot of saving for so be prepared to sacrafice a lot if thats you goal.
