Hi,

I just wanted to know if your have it and what do you think about it, many people say JMJ used it for Metamorphoses and S2000 so I wanted to know your reviews.

Regards,
Nicolas

I purchased Distorted Reality 2 back in May 2000, in Audio CD format.
I already knew about the good libraries from Ilio and Spectrasonics, but when I went to the shop to audition DR2 (in short!) I was really amazed.
It is a nice arsenal of loops, noisy synthetic percussive sounds, drones and FX, very well recorded (and mastered, though).

JMJ (and J. Garraud I suppose) used it quite a lot in Meteamorphoses. Actually there is something also from DR1, the TR distorted kick and snare from "miss moon" ("super kick", "super snare", "Turbo 808"). And something from Liquid Grooves (C'est la vie), although not mentioned in the credits.
We know there are some samples also from Cuckooland -the first of the series- but I never heard that Audio CD.

Today DR2 is a nice choice if you like to have "those" sounds, while if you need fresh samples for your creations, you may risk to hear the same sounds in countless records and, worse, in commercial radio and tv spots.

Spectrasonics released than Metamorphosis (is it a coincidence?) which is more or less the sequel of DR1&2, but more focused on loops and than they released Stylus and Stylus RMX, which again follow the guidlines of DR 1&2, but IMHO they lack the originality of the forefather.

Samples from DR1&2 that I spotted are in: Give me a sign, Hey Gagarin, Love Love Love, Miss Moon, Rendez-vous à Paris, Tout est bleu.

There are spectrasonics samples on the Roland expansion board called "SFX", but I don't know if they are similar to the ones on distorted reality.

Check what has been used to make this CD :

(copyrights to Ilio.com)

DISTORTED REALITY 2

Groove Menu

Unlike Groove Controlâ„¢, the Groove menu method is a fairly elaborate system of tuning offsets used to match grooves to one another. The pitch of the grooves does change. However, in a library like Distorted Reality, that's more of a positive than a negative, since unique sounds are the ultimate goal.

Grooves (different BPMs) are assigned to each key in the menu. The partial/keygroup tuning is offset for each sample so that all the Grooves are tuned to the same BPM. The partials on the right side of the Keyboard are copies of the left side partials and are + one octave (double speed). Then, that Patch is copied multiple times with Patch tuning offsets in 5 BPM increments. If you want to get additional tempos (like 68 BPM) simply tune the nearest menu patch up or down and all the grooves in that patch will follow. Numerous libraries have Pitch to BPM tuning charts, or you can use a handy utility like the Production Calculator freeware program on the Mac.

Not all samplers have this capability due to their structure for handling samples/keygroups.
