I actually need built-in fx for live purposes, for studio recordings, I use VSTs

I don't think the Yamaha have separate psu

8 inputs is not enough, if I work in mono, I need 10 inputs only for synths

Alesis is also budjet brand and maybe little pricey than for example behringer but still.
heared one who have even new machine form alesis with problem. and currently using when using Spirit ES (repaired) but going more software. and based what i heared ei recommend soundcraft spirit,mackie and allen & health mixers. also maybe current yamahas are ok.
ps. i also maybe someday buy new mixer becouse going use more software why sounds what i need are better in software often. and hardware is very pricey. when old romplers are not what you need.

@ Nico: good luck finding a rack mixer with 10 stereo inputs. If I were you I would go for a normal tabletop mixer...

Any tips for a guy who has to buy a mixer he can put in a rack with the maximum inputs, onboard FX, for about 200€ in secondhand ?

I found these ones :

- BEHRINGER EURORACK UB2442FX-PRO
- YAMAHA MG16/6FX

It seems like Yamaha is better appreciated, as the effects are said to be better, and they are producing much less noise.

I've been using the MG16/6FX for quite a while now in my live-setup and for me it's fine as a Live-/Submixer. I don't think that the internal effects are very good, but you have two Aux and 4 Buses to use external gear anyway. The EQs are ok and the 7-Band-EQ for the Master can be come in handy and all Inputs and Outputs are balanced which can be usefull live. And it has an external PSU. I wouldn't use it for recording important parts but for a live setup it's ok IMO.

Alesis is budjet brand by more pricey why i say this all alesis product have some probelms what know: One mixer,two synths currently i own one synth which problem is powersupply generates low frequency interference more than any other. These are only hardware stuff let alone manuals i mean how nice these are read. Alesis synths (these two at least) manual is hard keep open in place what you want.
ps. i know one stereo mixer with 10 inputs and 4 line/mic inputs and even some channels there is 2 pairs phono inputs in line input section. and mode is Spirit ES (by Soundcraft)what i use i know this is very likely impossible get new but.

At home/studio: Soundcraft Spirit Studio 24/8.
Nice, reliable mixing desk. Just too bad that the PSU is actually too light for the desk. I guess I have to replace the standard AC/DC converters to some heavier ones.

At work: Mostly Midas Sienna/Venice series, DigiCo D5 and Yammie M7cl

Same way here (too many synths and I like to record as many of them as I can in one take), buy one rack that has as many inputs as you can find (probably and make sure it's expandable via ADAT lightpipe. Whalah... 16 inputs.

I have my Yamaha 1602 mixer, but i don't have enough output on my soundcard (actually 8 but 2 are used for the stereo output...)

Motu updated all their interfaces to MK3, all except the 24iO. Maybe it is worth to ask motu or the local distributor if/when there's the MK3-Upgrade for the 24iO? Just a thought

As for the mixers, I still use a Roland M-480 as a submixer. Has lot of channels, 6 Aux and some routing options... And I found it better sounding than the Alesis Multimix Rack.
