That's what I love in the modular world, it will never be finished and it'll forever grow and grow :P

I'll try to look a webpage or a book which explain the utility of each modules of a modular synth (in french if I find :mrgreen) ;)

I always loved analogs but now I'm going to be a member of the analog modular club, YäY :D (is there a forum 100% modular ?)

I have now a problem, before doing all, I would like to know the size of usual modules like Moog's and so on to know the exact size of my cabinet and of each modules.
I am looking too for the way of doing a proper screen print for each modules like that :

Yep, no problem for the design but I would like to know the size of modules from synthesizers.com and co if one day I buy one on their module ;)

Read their site carefully, it's all in there, the sizes for their modules, at least.

I remember something about a company in Berlin that does silk screening...

Panel Graphics
Panel graphics are silkscreen printed using white enamel ink.
Font used for Module Part Number: Arial 10pt all-caps
Font used for Module Title: Arial Bold 12pt All-caps
Font used for Control and Jack Titles: Arial 10pt All-caps

Modules are multiples of 2-1/8" wide, so,
A 24" shelf has (24 - 3/4 - 3/4 = 22-1/2" / 2-1/8" = 10 module spaces.
A 36" shelf has (36 - 3/4 - 3/4 = 34-1/2" / 2-1/8" = 16 module spaces.
A 48" shelf has (48 - 3/4 - 3/4 = 46-1/2" / 2-1/8" = 21 module spaces.


Now I look for how to make screen print ;)

The easiest way will be, I think, to buy printed circuits boards from music from outer space but boards are rather expensive for some, I have for around100$ for 7 boards :| I'll try to find an other way so :P

I think I'll buy to begin :
4x 1V/Octave Voltage Controlled Oscillator
1x Dual Log/Linear VCA (Works from +/-9V to +/-15V)
1x ADSR Envelope Generator (+/-12V or +/-15V)
1x VCF Four Pole 24dB/Oct With VC Resonance (Works from +/-9V to +/-15V)

I'm not sure at all though.....

I have found faces for 12$ the face at synthesizers.com, I have to find cheaper ones.......same for knobs, 4$ for the knob :lol:

Why 4 VCO? I can understand 2 or 3 but 4 ?? can you use one as LFO ??? be sure to make them *with* temperature stabalisation... or you end up like me: 30 mins for the 2600 and synthi to 'warm up' before usage!

If you are going to make a rack be sure to keep some space for additional modules like noise and ringmod!

and maybe just mabye a neat sequencer!

Don't forget a Keyboard!!! (it needs to give 1V/oct ;)

Ah, you are right, I made a mistake, I wanted to say 3xVCO and 1xLFO but I really dunnow for the number of modules to begin...

I'll make myself a little cabinet in wood for 22 modules, I think ;)
I dream of a sequencer but I see prices......the sequencer of "music from outer space" doesn't seem to be very expensive, 30$ for the board and I need to add parts !

Ah yes, the keyboard, I dunnow at all for now.....how to do for that....

Hmm, theCGS kits seem much better, especially in that the Component kits give you the PCB and components. You'll be going mad to find some ICs. All the ICs for my Soundlab I had to get special order.

$30 for just the PCB is not expensive. But you have to take into account the prices of all parts needed! So get the BOM (Bill of Materials) and find a decent electronics shop nearby or one that will order from the internet and ship to you. Then calculate ALL costs including a nice Aluminium face and all needed potentiometers and jacks for just one module! Then youll see that 100$ won't do the trick...

As for keyboards.... the easies way that you are going to get one is... build one yourselve! Get yourselve a second hand organ for < 10EUR or so... it should have 4 octave at least (3.5 will also do) but the general rule here is the more octaves the better ;) then you can simply use a power source and resistors and diodes (one per key) to create the 1 Volt/octave... there are some schematics of simply look at the schematic of let's say the ARP keyboard.
