btw my good friend bought ms10 for 100$. The man who sold it didn't know what he was selling :P same with sh2000

Thanks! They were a birthday present to myself :P I never seem to stumble across deals like that. 100$ :shock: I'm the guy that sold a Minimoog back in 1990 because it only played one note and I couldn't get a decent piano sound out of it!!! :cry: I've learned since then...

I think I have heard the story about the minimoog before.
I think that's the most horrible history to remember oneselt...
The same thing happened to me with an Alesis ION.... (but I had to sell it because my computer crashed, with the money I bought a laptop and a D50, so....)

Why the hell would you sell or even buy a Minimoog on the basis of replicating a piano????

Even if it can do piano type timbres its pretty pointless in trying to play it like one???

He maybe bought it without knowing what is it, without knowing what a Moog is, maybe before internet exist, so, impossible for him to know if it is a rare thing....
Many people say : key=piano
Maybe, he didn't know what's the difference between a synth and a piano...

You can't judge if you have not all facts :)

Yep…I was a young dumb kid and this was WELL before the internet. Some friends had really cool polyphonic synths at the time DX100’s ,7’s, JX series etc. I thought those were incredible but very pricey. Stumbled across a Minimoog I bought cheap because some other joker had no idea what he had either. I was just getting into making music. This is back in the days when owning sequencing software meant you had a DOS based program and a midi cable. :? I couldn’t manage to make any usable noises out of the Mini aside from bleeps and blips. I tried to make what I thought was the easiest sound out there, a piano sound. No such luck. I didn’t even know what LFO was back then. :oops: There were no user forums or chat rooms or FAQ’s for dumb kids like me back then. All I had was a machine that made unusable noise one sound at a time, but I wanted to make music. So when a friend brought over a personal board that he had hooked up to a Roland D110 sound module I was floored. I thought those sounds killed that big clunker that only played one note! I figured the smart thing to do was to invest in a personal board and a polyphonic sound module. They’re called mistakes for a reason. :cry: Of course now I know better but with the advent of the internet it’s not as easy to find gullible kids like myself sitting on a goldmine of a synth. I’m hoping I find someone like myself one day frustrated with a Synthex or CS80 :lol: Back on topic!!!

Well the fact the Minimoog was not made in vast Quantities like the Japanese Black boxes which sealed the fate of many of the classic Analog,would suggest that in years to come it would be worth something,even if you couldnt coax anything Musically pleasing out of it...
the Moog badge has been a forefront name since its conception,the Minimoog is one name that most synth players would mention at some stage,irrespective if they ever owned one,its like a ferrari,everyone knows the name but couldn't say they've experienced the thrill of one,but always associate its name with Quality


I know people who did the same thing and ditched the Analog for digital memories,multitimbrality and sleek knobless cosmetics,its a sad fact that digital was everything that was wrong with instruments in general,yet at the same time allowed musicians to further pursue there musical reportoire by giving large numbers of polyphony and banks of sounds,you now have some synths crammed with up to 160Mb of PCM data,when i bet in hindsight no-one would ever use 10% of the patches on offer.Limitations on Analog caused frustration,but at the same time limitations made you creative and not reliant on dialling up a preset patch and just play,I think we have so much on offer in todays technology,but that also restricts in thinking for ourselves.....

People returned to the analogs in the Mid/early 90s for the simple fact it gave them more freedom to be expressive and the sounds were huge and full of life,instead of thin and cold precise PCM data.
simplicity takes precedence over convenience i feel especially with my way of working



Still its a valuable lesson,and at least you Owned a mini at some stage...

I'm not sure if the Classic Digital synths will be as collectable in years to come,but i will certainly keep hold of my Old Korgs in the hope they be worth something,even if i dont really use them much nowadays,irrespective of their image the D50 and wavestations of the synth world are classic synths of their time in a retro way a MiniM has been,even if they are worlds apart in terms of Construction and useage

btw have you ever heard of Korg MicroPreset? Nice monophonic synth. Had occasion to buy it. old korgs really can rock
