OK, so if I get it right the question is - "which synths would you choose to play/cover/remix JMJ's music?", either still in production or synths of anytime.

Depends if you want to replicate the sounds for a full 100% if so - you can use any synth and heavily eq it in the mixing stage, but I'm still convinced that if you want to nail them perfectly you will need the original setup. Otherwise for the not so perfectionists out there, any decent (V)A combined with a decent rompler will do.

i dont want fully replicate... and i mean jarre like dont cover/remix or even play Jarres tunes making own.

I at least when i use colored pencils really matter what bradn i use. And i want jarre like sounds...

Well preference of 2 synths would be down to your own choice and budget,Any VA or analog will do the job,its your ability to program them that will make the difference.I would have thought the obvious answer would be to look at the Equipment Jarre has used and pick some choice instruments from that,if you can afford or source any of those legacy instruments

Well, I did choose two synths and have played some Jarre covers as well as my own music on them. See the YouTube link in my signature for some examples.

My choice was the Korg M3 and Korg Radias. I also have the Radias expansion for the M3, so I technically have two Radiases... Radiass... Radii.. eh two such synths.

I love these synths, but they are not necessarily the only possible answer. It depends on a lot of things. If you do sequencing/multitrack recordings on a PC, you won't need a workstation (synth with its own built-in sequencer).

The way I do it is that I use the onboard sequencer in the M3, and uses it to control everything. Also, the M3 is a sampler, however I haven't used this functionality that much (exept the "Machine Run" looped sound in Industrial Revolution Overture).

For Jarre-type sounds, you really should have a Virtual Analog synth. I totally love the Korg Radias, but there are other fine synths out there. Nord Wave, Access Virus TI. Waldorf Blofeld. Just to mention a few.

If I could choose any two synths from any era, I'd still choose modern synths due to their capabilities. The "old ladies" of the analog era are very nice, but you'd need way more than two of them (in addition to effect boxes and recording equipment) to be able to do useful recordings of Jarre covers or your own music.

If money is no problem, I'd probably choose the Korg Oasys. It's a monster of a workstation, but also has a monster price. I'm not a Korg fanboy per se, and would like to have more non-Korg gear as well. For example, I think that the new-generation Roland Fantom workstations look very good. But at the times in my life when I was ready to buy some gear, Korg happened to have the (IMO) best alternatives at the time, and I haven't had any regrets since.

I like the Nordlead 2 for basses and sequences - it sounds a bit ARP2600 albeit a tad thinner than the real thing.

Take a listen to my covers - most sounds come from Nordlead 2, JP8000, and Waldorf Q.

I have heard some brilliant replica sounds coming from the original Virus and also Jote did some good stuff on the Yamaha AN1X.

Whatever you buy, make sure you get a Smallstone phaser - essential for Oxygene and Equinoxe.

Ok, yes, you could look at Jarre's original analogue kit lists but you'd struggle to program exact replicas as heard on the albums on such dinosaurs - just listen to Jarre's attempts of late in his live shows. Add to that the cost, unreliability and lack of memory, forget it, better to work with a modern virtual analogue if you just want to sound alike.

Which album sounds do you want to mimick ? Revolutions, buy a D50. Chronologie a JD800. Rendezvous a Synthex £££££££££££££££.

i try oxygenes (both old and new),equinoxe,magnetic fields and chronologie type sound sound style. and what synths you use differect sounds i want know what synth used sound x and etc.
