Workstation : Motif XS6 ?

Hi everybody !
I am asking me some questions about the next gear I will buy next year, probably in the beguining of 2009. I plan to have a new workstation to replace my PSR 1500 I will sell to one of my friend. The aim is to have a more powerfull machine than the PSR of course, but to have also a sampler

I tested some months ago the Famtom X on store, but I was not satisfied by it, or not fascinated as I was expecting, I don't know why.
I search a little this week and I find something interesting : the Yamaha Motif XS. It's sounds good, have some common points with my PSR, and have a sampler. But concerning the last point ... reading all informations about this on the yamaha website, I don't know if it is possible on this synth to put some sounds of one instrument sampled ( like in C5,D5,E5 ... ) to don't loose quality when you go in C2 or in C8 for example, or if we can only put on this synth one sample on C5, with a quality which will be not the best on all the lengh of the keyboard.

So do you think the Motif XS will be a good solution for me ? Do you have an other idea of a workstation which will be fine ?

Workstations come in all sorts and sizes, but for me the main rule is that for sequencing Roland is the best of them, Yamaha is especially good at acoustic sounds, and Korg is the best when it comes to multipatches and pads. As for sampling and workstation usability, they're all pretty fine, just a matter of getting used to. I've tried the new Roland with the mouse connected, and it was very nice to use.

Regarding your question about sampling - it'll be fine for a limited range. This goes for all samplers I think - unless you have high quality multisamples. That said - I'm not a king when it comes to sampling.

Super ! Thx for the explanation about sampling. As I'm searching good realistic sounds on this machine, it convince me a little more to take the choice of the Motif XS ! Thx again :wink:

If You're lookin for very realistic sounds buy XS6 for sure! or wait for Tyros 3 ;)

Realistic as in acoustic as in acoustic guitars, pianos and bowed instruments and stuff. Yeah.

Yamaha pretty much sucks with their AWM2 synthesis IMHO. So if you want to have sick leads and atmospheric pads... don't go Yamaha... ;)
