Has Jarre ever used a DX7,or 9 etc?

I've heard this can be a pig to program but having heard what you can get out of one I was wondering if the man ever used one,or the others in the DX series?

Jarre has used the DX-7. That bellsound on Ethicolor is from the DX-7. It is said that JMJ has critisized the DX-7 for being too difficult to tweak, but that has always been the issue with alternative types of synthesis than the subtractive.
It was onstage during the Rendez-Vous concerts in Lyon and Houston. Further he has also used the DX-100 which was used on the Rendez-Vous album, more specifically on RV4. It was also seen on top of his custom built Magic keyboard with light in the keys from the preparations of the Houston concert.

There was also one present in his studio setup in the pre-Chronologie era.

Cool! And i saw one on ebay a while ago for just over 100 quid! Think it might have been an earlier one tho with weak MIDI implementation.

Haha the DXs are classic. Some of the most ugly presets (check those bass and guitar sounds, instant "UGH!") but at the same time some really nice pads. I've got a couple of DX11s, for pads they're killer.

I quite like that typical metallic FM bass :P I don't have an example but I suppose you know which one. Maybe it's just because it's kind of retro. They can also do some nice bell sounds, especially those tubularlike grandmother clock bells 8)

Well i had a revelation when on a polish guys site. He collects synths and has about 3 JP8000s standing against the fridge in his kitchen. He has videos of him playing and one shows what a DX7 can do when programmed. I was gobsmacked! Utterly amazed and left me wanting one!

Never really thought about that :nico: but now as you mention it I think they actually changed the "Yamaha" to "a-ha" on the back of some of the Yamaha gear :)

Some of the early A-Ha also shows what the DX-7 can do, but that's perhaps just typical 80's. Still I think Magne actually was able to program the DX-7, as not everything was presets.

Didn't Mr Rhodes from Duran Duran used to program it too,famously favouring to do that than use the presets,unlike most 80s bands?
