I'm thinking about buying a Supernova (KB II). I think it's a great synth, but what is your opinion about this synth. Is it worth the money or not. Is it a good choise, or do I have to look at something else???

It's certainly a great synth! If I had a few thousand €€€ to build a rig, it would be on my list (talking about the Supernova II here... the demos I've heard were very nice).

All I know is that it's not a real vst. It's based on samples in stead of dsp technology. Anyway - didn't you own a VA already?

It's based on samples? I didn't know that.

That would explain how they manage to use so many effects simulaneously and have much more polyphony than some VAs.

the Novas are not software nor are sampled based Romplers!!!they use real Osc like most other VA!!!I think your confusing the Supernovas with the V station!!!which whilst a VST is still real Oscillators not samples!!!!!!

the Supernovas are very powerful synths,I used to have the original Nova(desktop) module was quite a useful synth and great for general weird and wonderful noises,I traded my Nova in for the KS5 which is the same technology featured in the Novas that use the Liquid Analog technology,
I looked at adding a Supernova 2 rack to my setup,but decided on the KS5 synth,plus the price was quite high for the SN at the time so i opted for the cheaper KS5....

One of the good things about the Novas and KS when you edit a program,with fx etc,most synths when they have those programs contained within a Multi setup usually share FX algorhtyms between a set amount of Timbres ,with the Novas when your in a multisetup the programs parameters including all FX are retained which most synths should incorporate,and given the SN are 8 part multi thats quite a powerful and useful tool....

Most people over look the Nova and KS range due to the shitty programming of the presets,these machines are so much more than a couple of dance/Trance patches,and anyone with a good programming base will coax some wicked sounds out of it,You can eve coax some very good Minimoog basses and leads out of the Novas/KS due to its 3 oscillator structure and for Moog autheticty 24db Low pass filter....

The Supernovas are a good investment to any setup,great hands on interface very easy to get around ,as there well laid out.....One of the best VA made better than the Nords IMO and most other VA of the time(apart from the JP8K of course!!!)


Go for the SN2 keyboard version if you can,More polyphony and more control (additional Knobs)there was also a limited edition Silver model too,which looks similar to the KS4/KS5.....

I´ve got a Supernova II keyboard, and it´s a very powerfull and colorfull synth!! One of my all time favourite synths!!

Jarre still uses it!! (Geometry of love etc..)

It has a very soft warm, but still a punchy sound!!

IMO much better than the Nordleads, wich I´ve also got!!

And I would buy one more just for it´s look!!!

But a great great synth!!!

Are you sure that is a piece of useful information? I am going for a nordlead sadly knowone want to seel them on DBA at this time.

There's only one problem: Supernova keys are very difficult to get! My local music dealer doesn't sell them anymore, and I don't see them often on the internet!

Supernova > Alesis Ion > Nord Leads.

I've seen them pass by quite a few times! Just watch closely at the known sites, and look frequently at eBay too
