OK...right now there is a discussion over at the EM forum about Jarre and the equipment used on Oxygene 4. One guy believes that Jarre used sequencers on this album while another one (me) believe that he didin't and that the bass is played by the RMI Harmonic in sync with the Minipops 7.

So I'm curious if any of you guys has got an idea? Sequencers on Oxygene or not? Geiss Matrixsequencer? The only place I can think of were they might have needed a sequencer is for the line in the begining of Oxygene II.

As I remember, Jean Michel said he didn't use any sequencer for Oxygène and Equinoxe albums, or was it on some track specially, I don't remember...

no sequencers on equinoxe ?? he used matriseq for sure, also the arp sequencer

There are sequencers in the gearlist at the back of the Equinoxe album. ARP Sequencer and Oberhiem Sequencer...and of course, as Radek already said, Geiss Matrixsequencer for the basslines on Equinoxe 4, 5, 6 & 7.

Or maybe it was for Equinoxe 3 that JMJ didn't use any sequencer, and for Oxygène 5, I don't remember well....

Given the freedom of the playing on the Tracks on Oxygene I doubt he used much if any sequencing at all on that Album only real obvious seqeunced parts are on Part 2/5(perhaps 4),there is a lot of freehand playing and given Jarre used Tape splicing on early albums he could of got round the lack of sequencers and use them in a similar way(albeit a bit more labourous)to the conventional DAW nowadays

Take the MP rhythms into account,he would not have needed to sync it to anything except maybe SMTPE on the Studers(if it has this capability and if he need to sync to other sequencers perhaps in Part 2/4????) he could just lay down the MP loops onto tape and then play the rest by hand and overdub the parts, the parts are not that difficult to play on Oxygene I often play parts in realtime when i compose into the DAW and then cut and paste in the same way you can with tape splicing back in the older days.you dont always need to sequence parts to get tempo perfect playing

Although its open to debate,I doubt he used much sequencing for Oxygene.Oxygene 6 is a fine example of it...MP Loop+loads of realtime overdubs

Equinoxe is more clinical and precise timing on the tracks compared to freehand on most of Oxygene (except for Maybe Part 1/2/8 Equinoxe)I think most of it uses sequencing..

in equinoxe 3 and oxygene 5 JMJ used RMI's onboard arpegiator/up-sequencer...

I'm not sure, but I think the Matrisequencer (without an X that is ) was built by Geiss to be used on the Equinoxe album. As they're quite simple of structure, I think he used a tape-loop for the sequences on the Oxygene album, or either the RMI arpeggiator. I'm not 100% sure! Only 99%!

For sure no Matrisequencer on Oxygene album.

No external sequencers on Oxygene, only internal EMS AKS, RMI Harmonic sequencers.

Eeehm, about Equinoxe: In the clip of Eq 4 there's a moment, you see a sequencer playing. I don't have the clip here at the moment, but I will look if I can download it.

Not necessarily. He could have played it once and then looped it using a tape recorder.

The Equinoxe 4 studio clip? I don't remember a sequencer in that setup! I think you are talking about the live clip, from the concorde concert!
