Back in 2001, Creative released a Digital Audio Player (DAP) and it was one of the earliest mp3 players around.

There was a special JMJ edition made to promote it:

You could win it in contests and as far as I know, you couldn't buy this in the shops. I don't know how many exists of this special edition, though.

Love it! In about 2006, I had a Creative Zen and it was brilliant.

And when I was about 14 years old, in 1988, I had a Aiwa personal cassette player (Walkman, just not by Sony!) and as it got a bit battered and worn over the years, I tried to cutomise is to look like the LAG Insecte from Destination Docklands. Failed but worth a go!

I had one these DAP jukeboxes - a standard one, not the Jarre model - it was hell on batteries, weighed only slightly less than me, and would set off every shop-lifting alarm if I walked through the doorway with it playing.

On the plus side, it sounded amazing, carried most of my music collection in one place, and had better software than even the iPod - you could cue up music as you went, rather than having to do everything via playlists - something Apple only introduced recently.

It couldn’t play CDs no, well, not unless you ripped them first.

Ha, I just found the details of the auction page:
https://www.vdgeest.net/jarre/jarchive/ ... tist=jarre

It was 2001, not 1997. And there were Genesis and Mark Knopfler DAP jukeboxes too. With a flash demo (if you have installed ruffle, you can use it)
