I watched the Jarre China DVD today and noticed (no, I haven't noticed this before... ) that he has used black tape to cover the names of the synths? Does anybody know why? :?:

It's prohibited in France to show brands on TV in general without prior permission of who-ever authorizes such thing. So that's why he taped them off...

(he forgot to do so for his Fantom X8 in Belgium (Linx) though....)

It is prohibited because of the copyright in France, as jarrekid said, because each time you show a brand, you have to pay something to the brand, so they don't wanna pay so they hide the brand name :D

It is like that on TV, radio and sometimes in films too ;)

Its the other way round,Its corporate advertising, classed as Free advertisment,if a brand gets shown on TV or a company Logo, they(the company logo brand) have to pay a fee for that promotion which is only agreed beforehand,Jarre could Quite easily display the logos, but due to advertising rights,Roland or whoever would have to pay for that privilige, because there is no sponsorship or royalties paid for such promotion then the logos have to be covered up because its advertisement.

Its not a Copyright violation,Copyright is when someone uses a Logo to brand their own products, passing the name off as their own.

Its about corporate advertising.....

Jarre covered up his Eminent badge on the back panel with black tape for several concerts, yet the company(as the Bodegraven Company) no longer exists,so it shows that its corporate advertising not Copyright.

Its pathetic really considering Jarre can mention Namebrand logos on his Album sleeves (which is effectively the same as free advertisment) yet he has to cover up the logos on stage.

It totally moronic because anyone who knows what Instruments they are knows the brand name so I don't see how it could be classed a corporate infringement, its like you covering up the Coca Cola logo on a coke can,but anyone knows what the hell a Coca Cola can looks like! so its hardly disguising the Brand Logo!!!!!!!

In their early days Norwegian Band A-ha used to take a Yamaha DX-7 on tour and they blacked out the YAM so it read AHA....Quite a nifty Gimmick

For the Gdansk Concert Jarre should have not covered the Logo up and just put a White letter "P" sticker over the R on his Roland Logos so it spelt .........POLAND!!!!!! :D

I'm not sure, but I think that company doesn't exist anymore. First it was Moog, after that it was called Big Briar and now it's Moog Music...
(and there was also Moog Musonics or sth like that, but that's another story)

The name Brand MOOG is no longer a registered trademark, even the late Bob Moog doesnt own the Name and its his Company that made them!!!!
hence why he called a lot of His products under the Big briar Name

The name Logo "Moog" was used by another company after Moog folded, they bought the rights to the name after it was considered abandoned due to Bob Folding

this company did eventually remake the Minimoog (a midi version) and the named it Minimoog which they had the rights,to thats why when Bob moog made the Voyageur,he called it Minimoog voyaguer

Bob Moog did apply back to the Trademark name "Minimoog" but sadly couldnt get the name "Moog" back and only as a Trademark not a corporate Logo,so i think he had to use the name Bob Moog instruments or something..and trade as Moog music Inc.I think he is still trying to get the trademark back, although sadly now he's deceased i Doubt they'll bother, everyone knows the Company brand anyway as Moog Music inc

I would say they never covered it up because as a Company brand Logo Moog no longer exists,so doesnt confirm to corporate advertising, but i would have thought given that Jarre covered up the Memory Moog logo, they Probably just forgot the Minimoog logo

its now known as Moog Music Inc.which under copyright law is a totally seperate Company to the one named under just plain"Moog"(although we all know its the genuine Moog manufacturers and Bobs company

theres a company in the UK called MOOG,possibly why Bob couldnt buy his logo name back as it had probably been sold to this company

http://www.moog.co.uk/

Heres a Quote from Bob Himself
IN A NAME?

"I sold my interest in Moog Music in 1978 and after that, the company continued for a few more years, then ran down. A few years ago, there was no business activity whatsoever coming out of the old Moog Music and the company was getting rid of all the old service inventory, showing signs that they were about to abandon the use of that trademark. Now, under US trademark law, if you stop using a trademark, it lapses and is considered to be abandoned. That's what Moog Music did.
"A man called Don Martin applied to register the Moog trademark, which ordinarily, he would be entitled to do, but there's another aspect to US trademark law in cases where the trademark is the name of a well known person and where use of that trademark might confuse the public as to whether or not that person was involved. That's where we are now -- Don Martin applied for use of the trademark first, and I've subsequently applied for use of the trademark, so we have to wait for a legal resolution.

"I've registered the Moog trademark in France and Germany and applied for it in a number of other European countries, but the situation is rather different in the UK where another party has claimed the right to my name. That's a problem for us right now, and again we will have to wait for a legal resolution

U will find the brands of most synthesizers and samplers taped up now because of endorsment contracts. Madonna is only using roland synths on her tour because roland supplied the keyboards for the tour. If an artest is endorsed by roland another brand canot be shown. If u are endorded by roland and use a korg or yamaha keyboard those brands must be covered up. Alot of keyboardist that goes on tour with major arists or bands get their touring equipment free or at a reduced price by landing an endorsment deal. This is different than copyright infrengment
