A soundcard for a laptop

Hi !
I'm asking myself if I will sell of not my computer because I have a laptop plus my desktop computer and the laptop is better than the desktop.
The problem is that in my desktop computer I have an good soundcard, the M-Audio 24/96, I paid it around 100€ and my laptop has a crappy soundcard so I am crying a lot because I'll have to sell my 24/96....
Do you know a good soundcard for around 100€ for a laptop ? With or without MIDI because I already have a M-Audio MidiSport 1x1 USB

Go for a decent external usb (or even better, firewire, to reduce latency to a minimum) audio device. As for the tight budget, have a look at Behringer, I think they have one in their catalog since this summer

No Midi.
24bit 96khz sampling (and 24/192 khz playback), stereo & 7.1 output (native hardware AC3-EX and DTS-ES decoders too).

It is, for sure, an excellent soundcard for games/films and so on, but it's a good soundcard for a homestudio too ?

This seems to be quite a good move for music laptops. Second-hand from ebay makes it very cheap for what it is.

After having some thought, I think I will buy the one Jarrekid shows me, the M-Audio Quattro USB, it has 4in and 4out, it is great !
What the use of having 4out, do you know ?

Mayyybe monitors and recording equipment at the same time, but I'm sure you should be able to record whatever you're doing on the laptop at the same time....

Multiple outs (the laptop Audigy 2 ZS has
serves surround and realtime diferent monitor/output needs.
The USB2 is not as fast as the PCMCIA, hence why the Creative card may add an edge on gaming/realtime processing/latency @ high resolution and huge sample rates, in laptops w/5400 rpm or less disks, however, I mainly recommend it for use of VST instruments... for audio recording I only do if you use it at 24/96khz with great cabling.
Thus means it (the ZS) saves CPU and sys resources, but it does not necessarily adds quality, does not work on desktops, and mainly just adds awsone extra (super-hifi) confort and output speed on 8 (24/96 7.1 realtime) channels (usually you need just 2), wit also hardware realtime surround decode, which you may not need (only to try out your ac3/dts encodings), but if you do, the creative will surpass mostly anything in windows based laptops.
I do love Behringher - a hell lot - (and Edirol) though, but not for portability, and, in a laptop case - as far as I am concerned - it is a big non-argueable issue.
For PCs I recommend Emu for great quality/price ratio, but if you only use vst instruments, it makes no diference for the final render, with or without tricks need, does not have to go trough the soundcard.

Well, I need to have the less latency possible, because I would like to use it live (at the same time VST via MIDI and synth for audio).
So the latency of the MIDI and the latency of the audio needs to be very low.
The Quattro says having less than 7ms, dunnow for the Creative.
I don't need for now to record at a huge audio quality, I never use my M-Audio AudioPhile @24/96, maybe 16/44.1, because I didn't have the need to do so.
I hope the latency of my M-Audio MidiSport 1x1 USB is not too big...
But the "in" of the ZS seems to be a mini-jack, I need an adaptator...
and I don't need THX and so on, I just need an optical/coaxial out or a normal stereo out :mrgren:
