Toxygene?

I'm wondering about everyone's thoughts on The Orb's track 'Toxygene'. It was released in 1997, at around the same time as Oxygene 8 was released as a single.

I seem to remember some legend that Jarre asked The Orb to make a mix of Oxygene 8 and gave them the necessary multitracks and Toxygene is what they came back with. Either Jarre didn't like it or didn't want it as a single as it was too far removed from the original.

On giving both tracks a listen it is clearl that Toxygene is nothing like Oxygene 8, so I am wondering what truth there is in this story.

What are your thoughts?

I thought it was true. The Orb can be very weird sometimes.
It was too far from the original as I remember.

Thing is - they were asked to do a remix but the tapes didn't arrive in time and this is what they came up with. Of course it didn't make sense as a remix of Oxygene 8 and that's why they released it themselves... :)

I wonder how different this is from the original. I think some of the official remixes especially of Oxygene 7-13 sound far from the original.

This just got nothing to do with it. Specially because the single nor the album wasn't released back then, as far as I know, so they just recorded something that would sound right in their opinions. It's an odd story though... :P

So Toxygene is the Orb's interpretation of what they thought a remix of Jarre's new album would sound like? Where did they get an idea like that? 'Now wait a minute...'

There was an Interview with Alex Paterson in UK DJ magazine(MixMag) back in 1998,they mentioned the single "Toxygene",from what I recall Alex paterson said they did a remix for Jarre and he was totally disgusted with the Interpretation saying he felt it was so far removed from the idea of a remix of his music, that he rejected it as a first wave remix.Alex Paterson said he never really liked or listened to much of Jarres work and only heard much of it when he was commisioned to do the Remix.he said they were orginially gonna call it Poxygene, pronuounced as "Poxy- Jean" as a backlash for Jarres comments and rejection.

Sour grapes I expect... :(

I've got the CD single and quite like it..even if its far removed from anything Jarre like.

that aside they've done some good remixes, one i like is a remix of "Towards the Evening Star, from Tangerine dream
