In celebration of his new album, Oxygene 3, French composer and 2017 Grammy nominated electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre sits down with Nic Harcourt for live a conversation and Q&A in the Jazz Room. Forty years after the huge international impact of Oxygene, and 20 years from it's second volume Oxygene 7-13, Jean-Michel Jarre is fulfilling a trilogy of albums with Oxygene 3, containing seven newly composed and recorded pieces, consistently titled parts 14-20. His inspiration for the newly added parts on Oxygene 3 was not to go back in time, but to add a sense of "now" to his iconic piece of work. Plunging into the environment of Oxygene with it's highly original dark, moody and at times quite upbeat musical language, Jarre references some of the music from his entire body of work on Oxygene 3. It's a state-of-the-art recording, embracing both classic and modern ways of music production.
Jean-Michel Jarre first came to international fame with his number one hit album, Oxygene, which went on to sell over 18 million copies worldwide.
A pioneer in his field, Jarre has largely contributed to the fastest growing musical revolution of all times, Electronic Music: conceiving music in terms of sounds rather than only in terms of notes, and thus allowing the composer to become his own craftsman.
