If you are able to tame the theremin, beautiful melodies are no problem. Using it as an alternative to violins or whatever is probably the most known and recognized side of the theremin. Jarre simply use it in another way. He would be able to integrate it a lot more in his live performance, if he played it the standard way. It could be used instead of the AKS for the Oxygene tracks.
