Coming Sunday evening (and a repeat on Tuesday the 27th), local Dutch radio Haarlem 105 will have a 2 hour special on Jean Michel Jarre to celebrate his 65th birthday.

The time will be from 22:00 till midnight on Sunday and 23:00 till 1:00 on Thursday. Times are in CET.

There will be tracks from his whole oeuvre, from La Cage until Teo & Tea and some snippets of interviews with JMJ.

Special radio broadcast: Jean Michel Jarre

Jean Michel Jarre, a pioneer and legend in the field of electronic music, this Saturday 65. On this occasion, state Haarlem 105 on Sunday, August 25th discussed the career of this French synthesizer virtuoso who stunned the music did stand with the groundbreaking album in 1976 Oxygène . In the years that followed many unique albums and broke several world records with his giant light, laser and sound shows in the world including Houston, Paris and Moscow.

Mark Scholz takes a two-hour special episode of Hong Kong Calling by Jarre's musical life. The biography and discography, listen to what Jarre the last 40 years has meant to the music industry. From his experimental work from the early 70s to the trance dance and he makes now. Really everything passes: famous songs, but also obscure tracks, live versions and remixes. Mark also has interviews with Jarre from the attic. The best you'll hear in Haarlem 105.

Hong Kong Calling is Sunday, August 25 broadcast from 22:00 to 12:00 hours. If you can not listen, then you also have to turn on Tuesday, August 27th at Haarlem 105. Then the broadcast repeated in a special edition of the Collection of Cologne between 23:00 to 01:00.

I'm listening and recording at this moment (not sure if Dr. Jones is recording also at this moment so yeah :P), the beginning of Oxygene Part 4 and a few moments later aren't properly recorded because connection dropped away. But since then it's been going perfectly :D

Hi Coen (long time no see).

Thanks for uploading this special 2 hour Dutch JmJ radio show :D

I particularly enjoyed Rendez~vous 1 and Moonmachine, I always feel these are underplayed.
I wonder what they were chatting about during the RV1 portion ?

It was also lovely to hear the medley of the pre-oxygene era, live versions from Houston and La Defense and the rest through to Teo et Tea.

So pleased they played the brilliant extended mix of Zoolookologie too, one of my favourites from that time.

It was a well thought out show and a wonderful way to celebrate JMJ's birthday/career :fine:

Thank you for the positive feedback. I presented the show and made the selections.
I am happy that you liked it.

The medley was done so mainly because most tracks from pre-Oxygene are not that good and I decided not to waste people's time with 30 minutes of experimental "noise". I decided 2,5 minutes should give a good overview of the innovative musique he made at that time.
My intentions were to especially show people that might not be familiar with Jarre's music (or think it is 70s style synthesizer bleebs and bloobs) a full overview and also show the progress his music has made. For the fans, I think there was nothing new (although I do udnerstand it is nice to hear what someone does with the music from my favorite artist)

I chose my favorite tracks from every album and tried to play at least one track from every album (even if I would only use it as background music, like Session 2000.

Zoolookologie 12" is my favorite version too, especially that great bass in the end.

You mention Rendez Vous I, I used that as a filler. Still, I like that track. What I was talking about? Not sure any more. I think I said that Rendez Vous is not my favorite album (too bombastic and the sound now is a bit out-dated, sorry...), furthermore I quickly explained the Laser Harp, the concert in Houston and before I started Rendez Vous IV, I explained it was a special remix that JMJ played in 98 when France become worldchampion football.

That was about it. If you need to know exactly, I need to play it back and translate it for you, haha.

In the second hour I played some live tracks from Hong Kong (I live in Hong Kong) and Calypso I from my favorite concert: Paris La Defense.

Anyway, sorry it was in Dutch. I still hoped you caught the meaning. If you have a specific question, feel free to let me know. I basically gave information around the albums, my personal memories (as a child when I first heard his music, the concerts I attended and the times I personally met him) and that Jarre was a pioneer when it came to electronic music. I tried to explain to people that this music is not for nerds. Still, I also critisized him for the overload of compilations and re-issues of Oxygene.

Thanks for this RemarkableRadio.

I totally understand about the pre-oxygene era. I know we shouldn't have favourites ;) and there are only so many tracks you can fit into a 2 hour show, so well done.

I also love the bassline in Zoolookologie, do you also like the bass at the beginning of the AERO tribute to the wind concert ? I love that one for similar reasons.

Then there's the percussion and bassist during the Houston concert, they just added so much more to the tracks 8)
