Hi!
What drum machine used JMJ on this track? I can't find anywhere and I really like it's sounds .

I'm not a drum specialist, but I'm pretty sure it isn't a drum machine, but the Pearl drums played by Christophe Deschamps.

These days you can get a somewhat good rip of the percussions with something like vocalremover.org (though this one has quite clear "shadows" of the sequence as well)

Vocal remover or stereo plug in or whatever is always what i use for years to discover the undiscover of Jarre's pieces

There are so many things we can clearly hear by playing with the MS Matrix and that the way i figure out plenty of parts of the tracks (ghost notes, unclearly notes especially in fast sequence...). It's not perfect but it helps a lot !

First time i discover it was by accident when i was 11 (i'm 42 now...) with a faulty commercial Hi-Fi system. The pots of the High F EQ was doing something weird and when touch it a little it remove the center material of the tracks. It was a brand knew way to listen to JMJ's music and it was like rediscover the songs ! Especially on EQ4.
Years after i reproduce it on computer when i was 17, thanks to SoundForge (version 4 i think) and its native Stereo convertor

Until now i still use this trick and continue to discover things !

Hello JMJ fans ☺ There was no Korg 3 used to play out different drum sounds during Calypso 2 at Paris La Defense in 1990. All drums sounds in Calypso 2 was played by Christophe Deschamps who had many different drum sets as two bass drums, various cybals, electric drums etc. and Dino Lumbroso, who played various drums, percussion, kettledrums etc. I have still my JMJ songbook Waiting For Cousteau here in my apartment with Key to percussion notation inside it ☺ If you have that same songbook as I there is mention no Korg 3 was used to play various drump sound during Calypso 2 live from Paris 1990.

To you who have listen to Jean Michel Jarre and his track Calypso 2 have to know some sounds in that track is from Roland D-50 right?

Roland PN-D50-04 81 "Marshy Zone" patch has been used in "Calypso Part 2" (Track 2) as the introduction special oceanic FX. It is then enhanced (0'07'') with the Metra Sound "Standards" (H. Maass) 75 "Rubicon" patch:

But that I am still is wondering regarding Jean Michel Jarre Calypso 2 is this strange bouncy sound which sounds like a mouthharp that sound one of JMJ's musicians is playing from his Synth during Calypso 2. Yes I am talking about Frederick Rousseau, which Jarre have borrowed in his concert from Concert in China 1981 till he stoped working with Jarre.

In 1990, Jean Michel Jarre used Rousseau again to rewrite all the intros and sequences of the music for La Défense Concert.[1] On stage, Rousseau's job was to synchronize the sequences and to reproduce live all the special effects characteristic of Jarre's music. This concert made it into the Guinness World Records as having the largest concert audience (2,500,000 people).

Rousseau is playing this strange sound during Calypso 2 from the concert PLD when he is bouncing his fingers on the Roland D-50 keys he is playing, but I am still wondering what is the name of that sound. I know for many times I have watched that concert that Rousseau is turning back to the equipments he have behind him where he choose something there, that he is transfering to his Roland D-50. Is there anyone who know what sound I refering to. Then listen to Calypso 2 track from youtube and listen to the sound being played at 1:34 in that video you are watching ☺

Finaero did you use high bongo, low bongo, snare drum etc while playing this test regarding Calypso 2?

In Calypso 2 you can hear both low and high agogo been played, snare drum etc. Each percussion keys name of various instrument is mention over and under them that is mention in my Waiting For Cousteau songbook ☺

That file only has the percussion track from the original CD version filtered by the VocalRemover AI

During Jean Michel Jarre's track Calypso 2 from his concert Paris La Defense no Korg T3 was used to play out any drum sounds. It was all played by the drummer
Christophe Deschamps ☺ I have here in my apartment Jean Michel Jarre Waiting For Cousteau songbook contains Key To Percussion Notation and the names of each Drum/percussion key is called like snare drum, low drum, low congo, high congo etc that Christophe Deschamps had in front of him and around him and the equipment Dino Lumbroso was playing ☺
