tried to replicate the Aerology lead sound.....


given that Jarre possibly used a Novation supernova on the Album(no official kitlist)

I know jarre played it on the Nord lead during the China concert,but i wasnt fully convinced it was off that synth taking into consideration the synth only has 2 oscillators,the Aerology lead sounds more fuller,so taken that the Novations synths have 3,i set about trying to replicate it on my KS5

Hmmm, maybe try to reduce the gain at higher frequency in any equalizer.
I did this way (in Adobe Audition) : Filters->Graphic Equalizer; 10-band; all gains 0dB except 2kHz: -10dB; 4kHz and 8kHz: -15dB each; >16kHz: -24dB. And this is a result:

The sound was recorded direct to the DAW at -3db no eq or compression
there was no point in me EQing it as it was only a sample sound of the patch i created....The only modulation it had was the Onboard Delay and a minute amount of reverb on the KS5...

I would only treat it once its sitting in a mix to cut its own space against everything else...

Is it possible to recreate this sound on SuperwaveP8 and/or on a Roland JP8000 ?

I think that thil lead comes from JP8000. But i never tried to recreate this

I'm not so convinced given that the JP only has 2 Osc,the sound in question is more phatter suggesting the use of either a Sub osc or a 3rd oscillator,I tried replicating the timbre on my JP and it sounded nowhere near as good as the Novation,even with almost identical settings,thats why i was more convinced it was off the Novation supernova.taken that he had one during Beijing so perhaps he used one on the AERO album...

i'm also working on replicating the Oxygene 2 Mettallic arpeggios on the Novation KS5,I'm persuaded that this was also off the Nova too.if you hear the timbres of the Novation stuff you can identify certain sounds that its possible to create thanks to its 3 osc structure. it almost has its own distinct sound quality.like that of a Minimoog that can be easily picked out

Yeah, I have. It'll be on zoolook. And yes, there's a supernova on it too, so you might be right about that one

Don't forget that during Gdansk he used Microkorg to play it.. and he has been using it since 2003... and Microkorg sounds full enough.. I don't know, just brainstorming
