Hi all !

I have a PC and a D50 and I just wanted to know if there is a good software to use to assign a live effect on the sound I play like a reverb, a echo, a flanger, a phaser....

When doing a live performance: MINIMIZE reverb as much as you can on the overall mix. Why? well the venue where you will be playing provides it for you including annoying echo's. This particulary counts for large venues. Try it with and stand at the back of where you will be going to play... you'll hear loads of reflections and you immediately want to reduce the reverb.

Besides... ever saw a violin on stage with a reverb attached??? Any idea why "stage reverbs" exist? To give the final mix on CD the same feeling as being on stage

So tip of the day: don't over use FX live on stage you'll drown the sounds in way to much FX. Deliberate echo's etc (for sequence fx or eminent for example) are OK.

As for simulating it: SIR with impulses: http://www.knufinke.de/sir/index_en.html (freeware)

For standalone you could use a VST Host: http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm (also free)

As for latency: it fully depends on your soundcard, ASIO driver and CPU power. for example I use an AMD64 4000+, EWX 24/96 and my latency when using 24/96 (my default) is 5.3ms. You won't notice that when playing... if my CPU gets hogged (it usually is) I need to change it to 10.7ms or in the worst case 28ms... 28ms is noticable..

better buy behringer's virtualizer

Johan : thank you it's to use in my studio, not on stage, just to play a phasered sound from my D50 in live (for example)

Radek : maybe one day it depends of the price

A virtualizer fx rack costs about 100 euros and has some great effects and lots of editable parameters...

Use 4 stages to simulate the smallstone you have to fiddle with the parameters a bit...

load it in a VSThost (or cubase sx or cakewalk or whatever) hook your D50 to the in-lines of your soundcard, pump up the volume and play!!

Before I forget: you can load multiple fx in VSTHost and you can even change the FX chain... ideal to create your own foundfx rack based on VSTe's... If I was going to play again somewhere I would use VSTHost....

VSThost is loaded but when I add the sound and play on my D50, I have not a phasered sound....
Help

edit : it only works on the laptop, VSThost is not working AT ALL on the other computer

If your soundcard works in windoze you can use it with VSTHost. If it fails to start then there is something else wrong... I use WinXP. If VSTHost does start goto Devices|Wave... and select your ASIO soundcard driver. If you don't have an ASIO soundcard driver select MME. You can also select your input there... In your mixer select the input AUX and load the VST In the VSTHost by pressng the FX button (simply select it from your VSTlugins directory)

Now it should al work.... if not please specify what goes wrong...

Oh, thank you, it was just a problem in Devices|Wave, I selected ASIO and now it works
Some effects are not working, for example, I didn't find a good phaser working
