I started working on this after hearing the excellent cover by matt222. This is my attempt to cover Equinoxe Part 5 using Cubase 5 to produce the synth sounds;

I have been working on a new cover version of Equinoxe Part 5. I am enjoying hearing this slowly come together.

I did not use any hardware instruments to produce the sounds. I used a MIDI controller to play most of the strings & melodys. I used VST files to produce the sounds.

From memory I used the following;

Rain sound sample = last 20 seconds of 'Swimming The Same Deep Water As You' by The Cure
Thunder sound = Arppe2600VA (free) vst http://glenstegner.com/softsynths.html
Moog bassline = MiniMogueVA (free) vst http://glenstegner.com/softsynths.html
'Vocoder' sound = MS20 Legacy vst
Octave bleeps = Steinberg Neon vst (with Exciter plugin)
Lead sound = Steinberg Prologue (bundled with Cubase)
Decending bleeps = Eminent soundfont file http://www.perkristian.net/misc/pk_emin ... plucks.sf2
Solina string = Eminent soundfont file http://www.perkristian.net/misc/pk_emin ... trings.sf2
Drums = Rhythmus Machine vst (free) http://www.elektrostudio.ovh.org/index2.php?go=5
Groovy strings = ?

I routed most of the channels through a simple Delay plugin, but not the drums, bassline or octave bleeps.

This is pretty fucken A, shows you what one can do with pure talent alone and a bunch of old (in some cases mediocre) mostly free plugins. (except for that MS20 emu)

Thanks Analog-Umph, you're too kind! You sound like you are quite familiar with Cubase. Do you have any material on here that I can have a listen to?

I use the basic VSTs so that I can get through to the end of the track without getting too distracted by fancy presets. The basic ones also free up resources for the more powerful soft synths that you want to use.

I'm quite new to this forum, and I've only come across matt222's hardware live version of Equinoxe PT5. I was hoping to ask him some questions about his version but he hasn't posted on here for a while.

I now remember where I originally downloaded the Eminent soundfont files that I used on my Equinoxe track. I think I should thank PerKristian for these files as they have been very useful.

I suppose it's not a surprise that this forum is a bit quiet, as JMJarre is not touring at the moment.

We all owe Per Kristian a big thanks for these old Eminent samples!
But I would also like some new better samples, since they are not the best - someone with an Eminent organ should sample every note in 96kHz/24bit and I should make the best Eminent ReFill for Reason ever

Yeah we all did. I think his soundfonts, back in 2003 and another couple of soundfonts is what started me in writing EM.

Yeah. Also some of the mystery has gone out of making his music. In the instruments forum for example we all huddled around to try to work out which synth and how a particular sound/piece of music was constructed. There's some nice insight in there.
