Hi all

I am fond of this Electric Mistress, and this SmallStone has a beautiful sound thru a string
But the problem is the price, more than 100€ for a pedal, well...

So did you make a pedal yourself ?
There are schematics on the web but I don't understand them....

Well.... as you probably know I made a smallstone many years back... it even had it's first repair (one CA3094 ic was damaged when plugging it the wrong way).

Here are some picz:




It was relatively easy to make. The only things I bought where the casing, ic's, led's and led driver. The casing is nowadays obsolete :/ wich is a shame since I wanted to make more FX in the same casing... The search for other nice looking casings is on.

I used the standard schematics (you need a postscript viewer for this): Smallstone Schematics

No not really the most expensive where the Blue LED's... they where just available... I've done it < 25 EUR (recalculated).

Ow nothing fancy just so you can see where the LFO is on low frequencies so you can start playing on the right moment. But you can also HEAR where it is

25EUR without the LEDS should do it...I did not had to buy everything new...
capicitors, resistors, veron board, wire etc where already in my posession. If you look at the studio picz you can see the table where I'm refurbishing the Compact DUO on the uttermost left you can see some spray can's below that there is a drawer with 15 levels in those is my electronics stock collected over the years and many many more in boxes....I'm glad I ripped so much stuff when I was a kid... my mum did not like me to collect broken TV's radio's etc.. but it does come in handy when fixing synths... I mean can you find a BC108 new there days without paying a lot of $$$? I have them in my magic drawer they really help the EMS Synthi going... even now I dismantled the ELKA Concorde 902... for it's spare parts... It's the only way to get a whole lot of electronic parts for almost nothing...

I read very often "how to make a Moog filter" or "how to make a MS20 filter" and so on about DIY filter.
But I didn't really see the use of filters alone cause I think you can't do anything with a lonely filter, right ?


An other thing, I wanted to begin to make DIY and I found that :

Here's the test of Electric Mistress [sb wants to sell it for 100$]

This is one of the presets. You can adjust all knobs by your way [color, range, rate + filter matrix on/off]. So the same sound can sound really diffrent through electric mistress.

you can adjust only 2 things color and rate. btw you can also change voltage to adjust the range of sweep. i've tried with 3V-12V.

I discovered that when my EH i was using had an almost flat battery,because the battery was dying i noticed it slowed the LFO rate down,which was pretty cool,i bought an AC power adaptor that had different voltage ratings and i can achieve this all the time now,although it doesnt really work below 5V...But all the same its cool..

Now i understood why Jarre had his modified to run on a lower voltage,given that i could never get the EH LFO to slow down convincingly enough for Equinoxe 2 i can see how jarre achieved it...as it gives a more smoother/slower and creamier sound using lower voltage than the standard rating 9V

Or, surely you could just modify the pot inside?
