Here's something from wikipedia that might help you:
"The Legion of Honour, or in full the National Order of the Legion of Honour (French: Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur) is a French order established by Napoleon Bonaparte, First Consul of the First Republic, on 19 May 1802. The Order is the highest decoration in France and is divided into five various degrees: Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Grand Officier (Grand Officer) and Grand Croix (Grand Cross)."
JMJ was awarded officer.

Jarre became "Chevalier" in 1995, during the CPLT event. Now he got "Officier" .
The five various degrees: Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Grand Officier (Grand Officer) and Grand Croix (Grand Cross).
1 - Chevalier; 2 - Officier; 3 - Commandeur; 4 - Grand Officier; 5 - Grand Croix.

Hmmmmmm, so when you scrape the niceties away, JMJ has been awarded a medal that was established by Napoleon Bonaparte, the war mongerer who sent thousands to their death. . . .

Somehow it feels like a big part of that medal should go to Jean-Michel's mother and what she went through during the WWII.
