OK, just read that the $9.99 is a basic Fairlight app with the option to upgrade to a "pro" version after buying the basic app using a in-app upgrade for $39.99.
This upgrade includes:
- gain access to the CMI III voices library.
- create instrument sets that store settings for all 8 channels, including the voices, pitch shifts, volumes, release times etc.
- use Page R to create songs that can be used with any instrument set.
- use the on-screen keyboard or external MIDI keyboard to record new notes while your composition is playing (minimum iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G or iPad recommended).
- play back your masterpiece, essentially as it would sound on a real CMI!
- export MIDI files from Page R, with General MIDI instruments for each channel specified by you
- import MIDI files into Page R, with all the notes ready to be edited.
- import audio files to be used as voices in your instrument sets and compositions.
- send and receive songs and instrument sets by email.

Great find Jon!
The Vogels kept a pretty tight lid on this! I was going to buy the new CMI but lost interest when the price doubled to 20k. But this... Now I have a reason to buy an IPad. I just wonder what thr sound quality is like. Is this something you really could track with and send separate stems to a DAW? That's the main question. I guess we'll have to wait till keyboard or SOS get ahold of one and give us a proper review. Nice timing since the new iPads r coming out, the old gens should see a price drop. Thanks again Jon!

I agree with Gert that the best option for this app would be via the iPad. And with the newer one out very soon, the original iPad may come down a little in price on new sets (although Apple rarely do this) and also on the 2nd hand market.

A few reviews are popping up on the "interwebs." Sound quality in a studio environment seems to be positive thusfar. As far as sending separate audio stems, it doesn't look like that will be possible. Bummer, but for a $50 Fairlight clone (plus Ipad an midi interface costs) I can take the time to track each stem separately. I've got other fires burning but will probably pull the trigger on an IPad/midi interface/Fairlight App soon. Once I do I'll be sure and submit a proper review on this thread. Unless someone beats me to it... If that's the case, please don't be shy about sharing your thoughts!

I got the $10 app onto my iPhone. It's a superb nostalgic trip, but I cannot compare this app to an original Fairlight as I have never had the pleasure of a Fairlight in person. First thoughts on this, fantastic. But it does give away a lot of secrets, specially where early JMJ is concerned and those sample sounds he uses in 'Moon Machine'. There is about 4 or 5 in this app and of course that "Bizzare" female voice as heard in the Houston/Lyon concert.
