ARP 2600 patch Oxygene 1

Hi all,

does anybody around here have a description of the "timpani" sort of sound the 2600 is used for on O1 (after approx. 4:25)? I can´t seem to find the sweet spot for this sort of sound, and I would love to have a closer look at the patch.

Thanks,

Stephen.

I can't hear any drums in O1?

What uh, what are you smoking? :punch:

I´m not talking about drums and percussion, I´m talking about that -- for a lack of a better term -- "timpani"-like sound that plays the bass melody around the 4:25 minute mark. Somehow I haven´t managed to nail this sound on my 2600 yet (especially the transients sound slightly different on míne).

No-one will ever beat my 2600 bass drones anyway :).

Stephen

PS: You wouldn´t want to know what I´m smoking... unless you like Cohibas and Montecristo No. 5s, that is.

Do a recording of what you've got, I'd like to hear it. Than we'll go from there.

Let me guess though, the patch is bass heavy, with not enough in the 300Hz and above.

To me that bass sounded like a deep fat Moog (Minimoog) bass when I heard it the first time...

Yep, that´s what I want, have you got a patch sheet for that?

No, but I do have a 100 or so versions of it, along with quite a few patches right on the money.
The problem is that the envelope settings will differ from synth to synth.

Are you using a hardware ARP2600 or another synth?

For the ARP, start with OSC1 at 10Hz and the other two an octave higher, slightly detuned left and right of course.

First OSC is square the other two are pulse.

The real trick is the combination of the filter cutoff, keyboard tracking, envelope amount and amp and filter envelope settings. Screw this up and you have mush.
Lots of release, adjust decay for punch.

Reading Analog-Umph's advices I try to make the sound from the ARP2600 V. No small stone because out of cell... :punch: so sorry ...

Nice beginning....
(It took me 3 years to get that sound exactly as it is in the album.Image )

Too much phaser color. That phaser that you're using sucks btw, it doesn't have a full bodied sound.
If your hardware small stone is dead, get another one. Or get the Arts Acoustic emulation of it, called BigRock, it's a dead on emu of an MK2.
Otherwise you can get the freebie called Kleinstein, you need Reaktor to run it though.

Add more filter env release.

And what is that sub-bass doing there before the patch and throughout? It's killing your sound.
(When I said use a 10Hz setting for an ARP2600, that translates as using a 16' oscillator on other synths, not an actual 10Hz signal, that's crazy dude  )

(Also sorry to be blunt here, but throw that piece of shit in the rubbish bin, Arturia's stuff will never get you anywhere.
The only two VSTis capable of analog character are TimewARP2600 (which Jarre uses) and a new synth from Uhe, called Diva. Just some friendly advice  )

Allow the patch to breathe, the harmonics should be going up and down across the frequency range as the phaser does its thing.

My EH SS nano is not dead, just that i don't have any cells anymore LOL ^^.
I remember the reaktor instrument which emulate it, and i remember that many guys says that it rocks !

I didn't set a sub bass signal, and all my OSC are 16" , i think it's the filter setting or KB tracking wich sucks (or tha waveofmr form in arturia ?) I will try timewarp soon , thanks for the advices.
