So probably it's because of different effects and EQs on that sound. The character is the same, like the "swirl" effect I think activated with aftertouch, anyway I felt it was another synth (the PCM sample base was similar between M1 - Wavestation - 01/W and actually many sounds that rely on them are similar on these machines)

So the M1 should earn cult status among us fans like it happened for the Synthex and its Sync sound...

As to Normund reported consideration I quite disagree with it.
I never found on the Kurzweil a single sound used on Chronologie (apart from a metallic sound in Chronologie pt.7)
Just the Chronologie pt 5 intro has those lovely 01/W airy pads...but...
Why this obsession against the factory sounds? Does an album need to have all sounds created from scratch to be good and sound good?
It seems that when you buy a synth you must erase the whole memory, remove the battery -to be really sure- and keep out from those toxic preprogrammed sounds...
If a patch is nice and sounds great why not use it? The sound designer are paid for that!
The crucial point is the ability to use those sounds at their best, to allow them to sit in a mix and shine for their quality.
How many of us found or programmed a great sound and then were disappointed because in the mix it completely lost its magic and was not as wonderful as we expected...?

Agreed, as long as there are enough self-programmed sounds in the music as well...
I mean, using only presets doesn't do the term 'electronic musician' justice: programming is part of playing the instrument.

As for the Kurzweil, JMJ only uses it as a sampler and master keyboard, AFAIK.

I have to agree too with you two. (yo!)

Even I, the wannabe musician try to make my own sounds to be used in my songs, mixed with the presets I found from the synths (hardware and software)

I have thought that I could try to mix equinoxe 7's lead strings with the MC808 preset 245 (JMJ's Beautiful agony), they should fit perfectly.

Pete, thanks for your comment. I wasn't certain about the Kurzweil part but I'm sure I quoted it correctly. Naturally, the manufacturer's name is not important.
Factory presets are not unnatural or distasteful, in fact they may account, to a certain extent, for the marked difference between one preset-based synth and another. Perhaps the idea behind this is that one tends to expect more and more from a capable and creative person.
100% Jarre, so to speak.
For me, it's the song structure that matters (so I can put it down on paper and play it at my leisure), not the timbral qualities (no ARP-like bass sounds available unless you have an ARP). And Jarre has often rehauled some of his pieces by choosing sounds that differ from the original markedly. So no problem with that, actually.

Its odd i think chronologie korg sounds xomes 01/w but all old korgs have someway at least same type sounds. Not maybe best for Jarre style but some others yes i mean Vangelis,Mike Oldfield...
