I love getting lost in hypnotic sequences and this is just what felt right through my fingers today as I played how I wanted to as opposed to following Jarre note by note.

That's EXACTLY how I see it.

There is surprisingly a small amount of Oxygene 2 in there. You have more or less composed a whole new track I like it. I cannot gte enough of that kind of sequence tracks

Matt, excellant work. I'm loving it. Any chance of a longer version, maybe bring the phased strings more forward as at the moment the arp is a little to dominent.

I shall see if I can develop it and see where it takes me.............................

There's something lately that's really, really started to annoy the hell out of me, and that's meaningless neverending noodlings of Klaus Schulze's sequences in combination with drums. I'm not talking about his early work, and granted there are 2 or 3 nice tracks here and there in his post 90's stuff, but this track reminded me of that. The "program the sequencer and drums, press start/record, go for 30 minute jog or through 30 minutes worth of bags of chips, come back press stop with greasy hands, master, slap onto CD and make millions' syndrome. I dunno if it's the combination of drums and sequences that's become so fomulaic that it's beyond boring or if it's something else, like the choice of timbres used in both.

But on top of that, the trance style really doesn't go with Jarre's music, it desecrates its primordial mood.
Jarre's style has always been a very tasteful balance between different genres, music on a knife's edge, and that's what makes his music outstanding.

But this is an ok track in it's own right, that is if you've not just listed to the entire Klaus Schulze back catalog.

I don't think I've ever listened to any Klaus Schulze music. I should look it up, I assume I'm missing out.

Although I have followed the basic chord sequence of Oxy 2, this really is just a quick doodle that I quite like the sound of and is no attempt to be Jarre just me going in my own direction albeit with a little of his influence. I adore some trancy sequencer tracks that you can just sink into without ever needing a middle or an end.

I don't agree that Jarre's music is always outstanding. I would say his music from the last few years has been pretty crap and his recent attempts to fit into a much more youthful scene I have found dissapointing. He was undoubtably at one time, at the top of electronic music but not anymore I think.

I am however, still interested as ever and wait in hope that he'll stop jumping around like some ageing rocker trying to fight the demise of youth, concentrate on composing great electronica with great - often unique - instruments and regain his edge on the scene being the legend that he is.

Matt ask Nico about Klaus Schulze, he's got quite a few of his albums.

Well that's been the problem with most music and movies for a while now. Once pop culture decided in the 60's/70's it had enough of 'everything old', the pendulum has swung the other way completely.
Those running the film studios and record labels saw this, jumped on it and are now dictatating what the public needs to see and listen to. Once you get pop culture moving in that general direction it's hard to show them the alternatives.

That's why most artists now make (mostly shallow) music for teenagers.

With KS, start with his 70's output, I'm sure Nico will tell about his most accesible albums with which to start.

The only problem I have with this track is that it's too short!

This is really great stuff Matt, as mentioned before there is the Arpegiator sounding bit, which works really well. I wouldn't say so much as a remix of Oxygene 2 (but you have made nice use of the "cute dolphin squeals" from the track), rather a Jarre inspired piece in its own right

Come May, if I had heard JMJ play this at Wembley, I would have cheered loudly and thought he had come up with a brilliant new track!

It sounds like JMJ meeting Tangerine dream and obviously like an "Arpegiator" tune.

When I listened it first I had a picture of Moog modular in mind, this could be a new "Variation" for his world tour ...
