The only thing about Beijing that Jarre 'lucked out' on is that it's only the 29th modern Olympics... the honour of the 30th one goes to London... had Beijing been the 30th and had France won the right to hold the Olympics, no doubt, Monsieur Jarre would've had the divine right during the closing ceremony of putting on one of the finest set-pieces known to man and afterwards, the presentation of a large cake with 60 candles would've looked rather impressive and I'm just thankful I have the sort of imagination that makes that look realistic. (I like that bit during the closing ceremony where they hand over to the next country and the next host gets to put on a bit of a display.... yeah... M People *AGAIN* and forgive me, but... thats a bit old now and was used during the commonwealth games in Manchester... and hardly original now....hope it's something different PLEASE!!)
As it is, London gets the honour of the next Olympics and Mr Jarre can sit back and have that quiet 60th birthday... and even then, if he wants to get up and do something to surprise us all, thats for him to determine. Either way, the Olympics is a good countdown to that momentous ocassion where JMJ turns 60... I'll bet he's dreading reaching another decade, but at the same time, I do rather hope its not just a wake-up call, but a time where he creates by reflecting on the past...
And besides.. I like the Olympics... I like the high-diving event, long-jump, think the walking race is hilarious and if 'Team GB' does scoop any metal for turning up, then good. In four years time, it'll be the home turf advantage and somewhat less pollution than they've had to endure already
Oh yeah.. mens gymnastics... !!
(and one good thing, our rubbish tv schedules aren't going to be messed up either... four more years and they will be...!)
Just wished there was less equestrianism.... don't get me wrong, I love horses, but... dressage really bites the big one for me.....
