As a first real synth,Depends on what your understanding of Subtractive synthesis is like,The MS2K is one of those synths that are useful in every respect but it has a sound that many people don't like it can be agressive and as mellow as you want to make it,most would say suited to techno or dance,but no more than any other VA synth,again this depends on your synth needs and what music you make,You can fit any VA into your own style provided you know how to program them,Most People are put off synths by demoing them as they think the presets are all the types of sounds they can make,which it isn't true for VA synths or any Subtractive synth.
The only downside to the MS2K is that its only capable of 4 note Polyphony which makes huge pads and washes impossible,although it does a fair share of pads and strings etc,as well as Basses and leads and everything in between.
Its not difficult to use more or less everything you need is on the front Panel,Most Korg gear is logically planned in its Operating systems and the MS isn't too hard to get around even with the Internal LCD menus,and you could probably get by with the presets without too much delving into it dependant on the music you like to create.
If your new to synthesis it may not be what you want,I would say buy it if you feel it could give you something,and take some time to learn the fundementals of Synthesis if you want to get the best out of it.It will certainly give you more of an understanding of what you can do with the MS2K.
On the Flipside,If your more from your arranger type Keyboards and your more comfortable in that type of working environment,the MS may be a bit out of your league for a first synth in programming terms,that it may not be to your liking and a couple of days into the purchase wondering why you bought it if your relying more on the demoing of the presets,the presets are enough to get into synthesis and you can certainly learn from them and the MS2K panel by disecting the parameters of the patches and seeing how each module of the chain works together and what each block does pretty much the same as every other synth made(Osc>Filter>Amp>) I would however take some time to learn a bit about Subtractive synthesis first if you know very little.
But again if your afraid of the Water,you'll never want to learn to swim.
