What are the minimum items essential to music you make

Not brain, ears, fingers.
currently, Moi =
1. Laptop or pc with Windows XP
2. Cakewalk Sonar 3 Producer
3. Sonik Synth2 sample library & sound bank.
4. USB MIDI Keyboard E-MU X25
5. USB MIDI Audio card EDIROL UA20
6. Beyer DT150 headphones.

Just an audio recorder, a sound generator, mics if necessary... and monitors.
That may not mean good audio, but it will always mean great music, and the style is all depending on what the sound generator can do and I adapt to make it scream it's best (so I won't do rock and roll on a solina string machine, nor Equinoxe pads with a flute).
Still, a piano or a guitar are my favourite drafting tools.
I often alter-tune the guitar, and one particular piano to something absolutely non existing - instant new sonic scapes I have to record one of these days...
I also play a lot with rubber bands (ya know, plucking as I stretch and relax them).

Inspiration and a Note pad....and a Dictaphone...carry it with me everywhere
Ideas are then transcribed in the studio....
which are initially done with 1 synth(Korg Triton) and DAW,to get rough demo ideas,then its worked on properly on the sequencers,i then integrate my other synths once i have chosen suitable sounds or made my own to fit...

My Roland D50 as midi keyboard and my laptop
I use superwave p8 to compose melodies and after I program sounds with all the VST I have and I add some VCS5 or SynthiA effects I programmed

I am not a composer but if I were I would learn how to play the harmonica and then have a pen and a paper with me. That would be so easy to travel with!

YES !
Prob the most portable (unless one is Bobby Mcferrin) & definately Lots of fun
... briliiant for a jamboree, campfire.
If you get a blues harmonica, almost anyhting one plays sounds cool.
