Still have to try Reason 3

I will be using that. When I start making music again. Which will probably be in 2029...

I had the chance to beta-test Reason 4 few weeks ago... Thor is very powerfull !

Sorry, but I can't see any point in Reason at all. Even if it's aimed at amateur musicians, I found the interface and everything hard to work with. It wasn't self explanatory.

Also, you can't load VSTs into it. That just sucks.

I'd much rather pay double the price and get Ableton Live, now THAT does EVERYTHING.

I like some parts of Reason, the drummachine for instance. For my case I'd say Reason is useful as an instrument instead of being a whole musicproductionstation isolated from anything else. The Thor and the other synths might be nice, but it will always be limited as a soundsource. That is boring in the length... always the same synth to tweak.

Being the hardware guy that you are, it puzzles me that you can't figure this software out. It's the closest thing to a hardware set-up that you'll ever get in a virtual environment, and that's the reason why I use it.

I'm looking forward to version 4. I would've liked to see the addition of VST support, which I think is the only problem with this software, at least they could have made the possibility of 3rd party support in the software itself, but I can live with it.

Although I'm hardware man,Reason is one of the few Virtual instruments(or environments if you prefer)that I rate,It certainly was the closest I got to ever having a hardware type setup within a virtual world,and the only software system I would ever want to work with,yes its a shame it can't host VSTs from within itself(I'm sure Propellorheads will look into this more for future system upgrades,given the amount of people who would like to be able to run external gear as well from within it,Me included) and such,but you can still utilise it with a host and still take advantage of running Vsts/External gear along side it,that was my only issue with it,that I had to use Cubase to host the other gear to sync with it,which fo me sort of spoilt the ideology of it being a self contained studio environment.

Its certainly not aimed at amateurs,thats like saying a high end workstation is aimed at pros only,its a tool whether your a seasoned pro or a newbie beginner to composing,there are pros alike who use Reason as well as a following of less experienced users,that doesn't reflect thats its a kids toy,in the right hands anything if powerful enough

I can't see how anyone would not get on with Reason,especially yourself JK....Coming from using Electribes and such and your understanding of synthesis and its methods of routing,Reason should be a doddle,I could maybe understand you not liking the Sequencer aspect,it wasn't to my liking being used to Cubase,but its easy to use once you see there is a good logic and well thought out interface behind the functions


its easy to use,and a good tool for sketching out ideas without killing your enthusiam or creativity and has so many easy routes to patching instruments around to get some weird and wonderful combinations of sounds and interfaces,the Sequencer aspect may not be up to pro standards of say Cubase,but thats understandable due to its price but they have made significant improvements over the sequencer since which are making it more into an actual proper production suite and you get a lot of bang for your buck,I know its software but try and get the same amount of flexibility and sound options from a Hardware equivilant for the same amount of money

I know, it's what everyone else has told me, but I still just don't quite get it. And to be honest, I don't want to either.

I really like the new looks of the sequencer and of course Thor. Even though I'm a vintage junkie I do like to work with Reason. It's great sketch pad. But it sounds so freaking cold. If the Subtractor sounded more like Creamwares ASB series or Arturias software then I would probably be a 100% laptop musician.

Who says Reason don't support VST? Here's my Minimoog module in Reason 3.0.

Hehe... Uncle Grandpah is just pulling your legs. It's just Reason's Combinator where you can change the backdrop, and I downloaded a ton of old synth backdrops yesterday. Looks neat!
