I was listening to some old CD's in my car and while driving I heard one song in particular which sounded like they where using some samples of the Oxygene Part 2 track.

The track is called Keep Hope Alive and was composed by The Crystal Method
The album I was listening to is Kinky Beats - Vol.1

Anyone familiar with this song?

Some time ago this was my favourite track and I do like all their music but I am not familiar wih this. What sound do you mean?

Well, it's kinda hard to explain by text..you gotta hear it..
Hmm..it's that typical ambient (wha wha) sound which is in that track and also the kind of laser/phaser sound.

I'm certainly aware anyone could make these kind of sounds, so it wouldn't surprise me if this is the case in this song, but it sounds to familiar for me.

About the track, gotta say it is very very good !

The string sound is simply a phased string, and from time to time you can hear speeded-up AKS-like SFX
I don't realyl think they used samples, but many persons use effects such as flangers, phasers and so on synths, the idea was quite developped thanks to JMJ though

They had alot of vintage stuff when they made that track still not an EMS afaik. I think the inly samples they used were for the vocals. I don't know what they used for it, but a Nordlead is said to be responsible for the mainline and most other fx sounds. A Juno 106 for that nice pad.

That's the reason why I asked here..many of you also have quite a lot of experience with synths and stuff.

That's a really old page and I don't have the time to make a good one at all!

Anyway, I don't know if the rest of The Crystal Method tracks are like these, since I only have one song which is on the Kinky Beats album.

I will downl.. (ahum..buy) some albums to hear some more from them..

Thanks for the info!...though it sounds like greek to me. (I don't know that much about synths other than listen to them)

If you like Keep Hope Alive, their debut album 'Vegas' will probably sound nice to you. Their second album (Tweekend) is a bit different and perhaps less synthbased. Their third album (Legion Of Boom) sounds a little more like Vegas but has some vocal tracks as well, still worth checking out, especially if you like big beat drums and buzzing distorted synthsequences.

Big beat drums and buzzing distorted synthsequences are one of my favorites.
Kinda like a crossover between Front242 and Nitzer Ebb.
