Okay, so I wanna come up with positive reasons why Jarre used the Roland presets for Téo & Téa... I know call me foolish.


I was thinking maybe after 30 years he hit writer's block! He was like Barton Fink in the Hotel Earle staring at that blank page going what the **HECK** do I do???

And like Barton Fink, Jarre wrote his B-movie wrestling picture...

Maybe he just needed a quick recharge and wanted to get over that writer's block. Something totally crazy and not like himself at all. Just say **The Hell With It** **Let Me Get This Dancing Bug Out Of My System** He just needed to do something on auto pilot where he didn't have to think to much...it was just the art of doing and that idea of completing something quickly so he could move on to bigger and better things.

I know I'm being totally crazy, but I'm that glass half-full kinda guy.

NOTE: I just want positive reasons here. I hope someone else will write back...

He just wanted to have fun with his new toy, and so he got inspired by these presets to do the tracks he did. End of story!

JMJ made those presets but did not want to be named! Or he just used them for a laugh and to see what his fans would think. But I am not sure as my opinion is not totally believable to myself. I am confused but one think I do know that there has to be a positive explanation.

Sometimes I've been thinking...maybe this whole project is a curtain to gain money for a larger scale operation behind a smoke screen...eventhough I know it's a crazy conspiracy way of thinking.
That is just my own imagination. One always have to remember -nothing is comfirmed yet by anybody...it's just so darn tempting to dream a little now and then.

Also part of experimenting (if Téo & Téa is an experiment) is seeing what you can get away with....

(and with Jarre fans not that much it seems, hahaha! )

Final reason for me: Jarre was bored and said I'm gonna throw the Roland MC808 against the wall and whatever presets are still working... they're mine!

There must be an excuse... but that doesn't make me like the album more. Perhaps. I think. Maybe not.

Jean michel jarre always used quite a lot presets of synthesizers and machines... Remember Revolutions and the Roland D-50! Chronologie and the Kurzweil K2000! Even the famous laser harp sound in Rendez-Vous is a preset of the Elka Synthex... More recently, the album Metamorphoses is full of presets (these are Joachim Garraud's own words).
I think what really matters is the final result, the music in itself... It is possible to have a real sound research by only using presets ; what counts is the combination of these sounds!

Apart of that, the other "problem" is if you like Tea & Tea, or not!

Even Zoolook used a lot of presets so you will never hear me say he shouldn't do it.

He sure made a brilliant Album in my book with T&T with the exeption of both T&T tracks.

At first I did (and still do) found T&T rather meticulous in it's production with a lot of micro-details. I find it natural to find those kind of details in thought-a-lot pattern style or song-style complex patches in complex machines.

Still, a sound is a sound, a bundle of sounds is a bundle of sounds, and a pattern of a bundle of sounds is almost a song... the artistic value starts to change. Using complex presets for a game or a movie/theater scene, let's say, a few secs, alright, but a whole song? That's like endorsing total automated music made by computer with no human intervention except preset/algorythm in a near future... and no computer is, yet, creative - altough you can make it sound like if it is... only for some time, that is.
