I had one question :

About the trancy-sounding background pad in Aero Opening @Aalborg, can this one be done on all the NL or only on one of them, and has Jakob this sound as a preset on his NL 2x ?

It's the heavily chorused pad I guess. I think you can see JM playing it.

The sound of the NL1 and 2 is quite similar, NL3 sound fairly different.

I guess it's a patch for the NL3, it was more suited for trance, however the 2x can do trance stuff also and is said to be smoother than it's odler brothers, still it is not quite the same as a 3.

In the video, it begins @ 02:30, and we see him "playing" it on his NL

Yes, the i thought about the same sound. I am always experimenting with the 2x's opportunity to do trance sounds. I'll see how close I can get, eventhough the 3 is said to have another character.

But is it the NL3 used for that sounds ?

It could have been, I know from demos that it can do very trancy sounds, alomst like a JP8000, but it could have been hooked up to the JP8080 aswell as it was used for a controller during the light my sky vocoding which must have been from the 8080. Check your JP once more time, the supersaw should be close (not to sound like a know a lot about the JP )

Perhaps an external chorus was used?

Btw, I heard that this track was 99% Korg Karma...

Ok My 2 cents on the Nord lead.....


Its a very overrated synth!although its moved on since the days I had the NL1 in 97,I know they've refined them since,and I like the way they stick to the same synthesis without changing the Names and rebadging,making the next edition better and better

One thing I will say in praise for NL is that its very easy to program,a no fuss interface,They fired up the VA market in 1995,and started the ball rolling for every other major manufacturer but there are far superior models around now,like the JP8000 and the Virus' models that the Nord concept is bit tired now but its just a matter of taste and opinon really there is no generalisation on whats best,The Nord sound is very raw in comparison to many other VA,but thats possibly down to the lack of FX, the NL1 I had was certainly more true to analog sounds and the basses certainly were Quite fat,but a bit harsh on some timbres,I didn't take to the sound of the NL2,maybe just my tastes had changed after owning the Mk1and heard other VA since that...I'd consider getting another one at the right price,only thing I wish they had was some FX modulation, Its fine for basses having no fx,but sometimes a little onboard Chorus or delay on a Lead line makes it sound more pleasing.

Ofcourse I have to defend it, as it is my favourite synth

I guess you have said that before... Everybody has an opinion. I hear people say the same as you and people who disagree. I disagree with you, mostly because you state that there is so much better, which can only be decided by the single person. I don't mind the missing effects, I just get it from external sources, onboard effects often suck anyway (depends on what it is ofcourse). Maybe that's also a reason why I like it. It is simple and then I can add my favourite effects.
