This is my problem : in a couple of months, I will finish most of projects I wanted to do this year. But I'm still prospect for the futur, and the gain of some money this summer can allow me to buy some new material, and maybe ( it's a hard possibility ) a new synth ! But which one ?

Now, I always made good choices for my kind of music and my level at the moment I bought the synth ( I've a PSR 1500 for "real" instruments, a SH 201 for more electronic sounds, and a micro korg also for the electronic sound and his size for moving to do some repetitions ) but this potential new synth will be a real stage.

I want to create sounds which be maybe more electronic than the sounds of the SH 201, in order to create musics more electronic, more in the dancefloor style, techno, minimalist music with sounds very original, strange, powerfull, and of course big bass ! And if he can had also various and beautiful pad ( but it's only optionnal ! )


So, for people who knows more than me ( and I'm sure there is many ! ), have you an idea of the utlimate synth to choose ? Few times ago, I was interrested by the Virus Kc, but Nico think it wasn't a good choice, because it will be a second virtual synthesizer ... the andormeda ? too expansive of course for me, maybe in a few years ...

I adviced the K2000 which can produce a lot of sounds, from trance to ambiant, or even the XP80 !
But the wiser choice would be not to take an other VA (you already have 2 VAs !) and to concentrate on a rompler

You say you are using a PSR for the basic sounds, and if that's satisfying you don't need to look any further into another rompler.

Another VA never hurts, it will have very different possibilities and will sound very different.

I don't think the ultimate synth excists, all synths have their drawbacks and advantages.

Though, looking at the kind of sounds you're after, I'd aim at any more advanced analog or virtual analog synth. This can be a Nord Lead or any of the Virus synths, perhaps the Andromeda indeed.

You can always try out a few in the shops

The Ultimate synth????Does it exist???Thats down to your knowledge and Abilities,I think the A6 fits pretty much 90% of that badge,the other 10% it lacks is because of its OS bugs,if Alesis sorted them then it would definetly be 99.9% my ultimate synth

On a personal level the Andromeda is pretty much every synthesists fantasy,due to its real analog sound,and possibly the closest synth you'll get to a Minimoog without actually buying one,its a very flexible synth and loads of hands on control and manipulation, the power under the Hood is quite shocking,although it does have its flaws in the OS which stops its from being the ultimate Analog in a Digital era..Perhaps maybe a little overpriced for what it is,but on a scale of synths this is definetly a 10/10,once youve used an A6 everything else is second best,and thats coming from a user who's owned pretty much 95% of the Virtual analogs...The only machine thats worth its salt is the Roland JP8000,but even this machine is thin side by side with either the A6 or the Virus TI,and you'll hear the difference straight away with you using the SH201 which many consider the Poor mans JP8000...The A6 just blows any VA away.You can hear the difference in the sound from the A6 straight away.it just cuts thru so much better in a mix..

If your into editing and have a good deal of knowledge of subtractive synthesis,the A6 is certainly the tool.Don't buy it on the premise of the presets,cos there pretty abismal,(Some are usable) You'll get far better results from the Andromeda learning to program it yourself,but unless you intend to program it I wouldn't even bother with it,out of the box this machine is weak,which is a shame as this thing is brilliant under the hood and the large LCD makes things even more of a pleasure,none of your shitty 3 digit display or 2 line pixelisations!!! but you need a Little Knowledge to program it to get the best out of the Andromeda,Hence why Its fits me perfect,I took to it really easily...

This machine is so phat its unreal,think of it like a Modular synth in a keyboard,the Routing possibilities of this thing are second to none,but its not a synth for the fainthearted for sure,it demands a lot of respect and will give you some good results with a little Patience

As for the Virus TI....Again this is another huge machine,it has a lot of power under the hood and also has a very similar timbre on some patches to a Minimoog,(The filters are modelled on the MiniMoogs 24db Low pass) I can't praise this synth enough,this is the sort of machine that you can get by with just using the presets and nothing more,but thats not too say that its not programmable,because it is,and very easy at that,its just that the presets are awesome,if your into Dance of any kind this would possibly be the only tool you'd ever need in your synth arsenal.

I know the 2 machines are pretty Highly priced in comparison to other cheaper VA around,but with the TI/Andromeda,You get what you pay for...and thats real Quality,when you consider that the A6 was mere £2500(3,700 Euro's) on release its not badly priced today,when the JP8000 was the same price on release as the A6 is now(2,197 Euros),plus due to its Multitimbralism your kind of getting 16 monosynths for the price of one..16 Voices maybe limited in terms of todays polyphony,but no other VA gives you that amount of power and Multitimbral ability in a single unit and also a 16 step analog style sequencer for each part too,as well as an Arpeggio...

If your doing electronica/Dance any VA synth would do the job,just depends on what sort of sounds you want,between the A6/Virus Both would do the job sufficently..

Too choose between the A6 and the TI????Good Question Thats up to yourself and your needs,if your not into soundscaping then the TI would get you by easily,theres plenty of dance presets thatn you'd ever need(Jarre used plenty of them on Teo+Tea)if your into editing,then either machine can do the job,but the A6 will be more of a sculpting toy that will give you great results and a lot of fun to use..

I don't need to answer which is the best...I've got them both!! :wtf2:I would highly recommend either of them,it just depends on your own taste and Budget
