Need help, MIDI

I need to take my Nordlead to the shop due to some AUDIO problems. I will need to save all my selfmade patches, but I don't know how. I have used Cubase to import patches to the Nordlead, is it possible to reverse the process in export patches? If not, what will be an other solution? Links to programs and a short comment on the process are friendly welcome :)

Ok I will look into those programs, if I can use them just like that.

It's quite easy. You need to select a channel on the PC prog from which it is supposed to receive a midi patch dump from. As soon as you have established a connection, you need to find a function on your nordlead saying sth like "execute patch dump" or "midi bulk dump" or something like that.

Yes there is something about dumping pacthes to another Nord, it must work in the same way.

You can store the sys ex dumps from your Nord into Cubase...

Make sure that sys ex rcx/trx is enabled on the Midi filter menu, and the same on the Nord if it has Midi message filter options

Make sure your nords Midi out is connected to your PC Soundcard/USB interface Midi IN
select a new track in cubase with the same Midi channel Number as your nords Global channel(best to set them to Channel 1)

set tempo on cubase to 120(this is best as if you set it too high the data may not be saved coerrectly due to system exclusive timing intervals)

Make sure your In and Out locators on Cubase are set long enough to record the data(set the Left at 1 and the right at 100 tjhis should be ample)

Get your Nord read to dump the data,(but not yet)

hit record on Cubase and let it run for a bar or two first, the ndump the data from your Nord(check to make sure the Midi in indicator is showing activity)

Once the Nord has stopped the transmission, save the song name it so you can recall it easily(Nord patches dump.Sng or something)

When you redump it,just open the cubase song make sure the Nords global channel is set to match the channel number on the track again, and then connect the Midi out on the PC to your Midi in on the Nord and then hit play!!!wait for the track to stop sending the data and your nord will be restored with your patches

Hmm I think I did everything right, but when I stop the recording, the recorded block disappears. Im not sure I found out precisely what I had to check while it recorded the first bars. Does the MIDI out and in activity counters have to move while recording? they didn't. Only if I press a key on the nord.

when you dump the Nord data to the PC you should get the Midi in bar moving whilst your recording the data, when its stopped the nord has finished sending the data, but keep Cubase recording until its fully stopped.dependant on the size of the data being dumped it shouldn't take more than around a minute or less, highlight the track data in the arrange window then open the List editor to see if the sys ex data has been recorded,if it has save it as a song file,,when your recording that data make sure you only connect the Midi out on the Nord to the PC,nothing else otherwise you'll get echo back and the data retransmitted to your Nord if youve go the OUT on the PC connected to the Midi in on the Nord, this will cause problems if cubase has Midi thru enabled....you should only be getting activity on the Midi in Bar on cubase when your dumping the data

if there is no sys exc data in the list editor(You should have a list that looks like this e.g F0.42.43.5F,6E, ETC)if the list editor page is blank, then your not getting the data from the nord into cubase

if your not getting any data recorded, then check the Midi filter in Cubase as a default in most cubase versions the Midi filter for system excusive is usually switched off(represented with a X next to the sys exc check box9this stops the data form being received or transmitted by cubase),just click it so its blank, this allows you to send and receive sys exc data on cubase, then record it again as described in my previous post

Which Version are you using(VST/LE/SE/SX???)The menu structures are different in some versions...

Ok, in the MIDI filter, there was an x in sysex, I see now what was wrong, I don't know why I didn't use any logic and thinking about the word filter.

EDIT: It worked now i think. The process only took about 10 seconds. I can only dump 100 patches at a time. You can see the nordlead going trough all the pacthes while dumping.

This is the result:

I guess those pins marks the beginning and start of the transfer, or what?

10 seconds!!!Wow thats fast!!!,did you dump the Enitire memory or can the Nord only do Patch banks at a time,or is that s ingle patch????that seems quite a short dump for the entire memory, does the Nord have a "Dump All"Option,I'm sure this would take more than 8 bars to record??

Most synths usually give you an option to dump just patch data/Performances etc or back up the entire system,I tend to back up the whole system, that whay you cna be sure everything will be saved, and that your synth will be restored exact when you dump it back

which model Nord do you have??I used to have the Original mark one and that had a facility to dump the entire memory, even if the Nord doesn't allow that from its menu structure you can still force it to dump the entire memory from the synth using a system exclusive command from Cubase to tell it to do so..(you can find this sys exclusive message in the manuals at the back)

Seems Quite a long winded approach to saving the data having to save a bank at a time, unless they changed it on newer models, which would seem to go against the Logic grain!!!
