JMJ and the CS-80

I thought I read somehwere that JMJ never used the CS-80. Was just listening to Oxy I and Ethnicolor Pt 2 and heard some fa-a-at filter sweeps. THey sounded very CS-80ish. Reminded me a lot of Vangelis. If it was not the CS-80 what synth was it? Just curious.. oh yeah and a synth geek as well.

He used the CS-80 on Oxygene 7-13, not on the first Oxygene album!

CS60 was also used on the Magnetic Fields album and possibly also on the Chronologie album.
The CS80 was used for those bass drones on Oxygene 12. At least JMJ uses the CS80 to play those live...

I thought the high notes where done on it aswell. He is even using a glide effect in the track, like he was using the ribbon.

I could have sworn that I read somewhere that he didn't use a CS-80. Incorrect indeed! I found it quite odd since the CS-60/80 were some powerful analog polyphonics back in the day. Seems like the pitchy sounds from Equionoxe are very "CS-80ish" Dunno how I missed that. So what was used for the filter sweeps around 4:57 in Oxygen I? At first I thought it was a chord but listening to it again it doens't really sound like a chord just a multi-oscillator synth with a nice filter sweep. Hmmmm still curious about this one???

I don't think he had a CS-80 when he recorded either Oxygene or Equinoxe. We would have seen it then but he had the CS-60 which is said to have been used for Equinoxe. On the Oxygene 7-13 album he used the CS-80, he said in an interview that it was used for Oxygene 12 and it was seen in his Oxygene 7-13 studio setup.

No, he had no CS80 around that time.

That's just a detuned saw patch that you can do on pretty much all old analogs!
I've done it on my MiniMoog and ARP2600!
It's the kind of brassy sound that doesn't immediately say: aha I'm from an ARP or I'm from a Mini! It can be done on many synths! Maybe he used an ARP, maybe the KORG or even
the MOOG 55!
My question really is, regarding that track and (Equinoxe 4 for that matter), is how the hell he created that enormous bass drone?

Yep listening to it more it is a multi osc filter sweep. Scratch that a very fa-a-a-t filter sweep. Most analogs with some stones should be able to get close to the sound. 2600??? I'll try and make a similar sound on my Voyager and dream that I had a 2600!
How to create the deep bass drone??? Good question indeed. Maybe someon on the board has some ideas. Love the Avatar BTW (very Venomish). Back on topic

He used CS60 in Equinoxe 1
The CS's sounds in Chronologie 1 were programmed on JD800 by Francis
